Stories (EP)
''Stories'' is Chris Brokaw's third solo EP. Background Released in December 2011 by Limited Appeal Records, ''Stories'' was recorded and mixed by Tim Shea in January 2011 in Boston, MA. Dean Styers was in charge of photography and provided the album's cover art. The original pressing was a small, numbered edition of 117 copies, and contained merely three tracks, the vinyl for which was cut by Bob Weston at CMS. The EP was re-released in a CD version which included three further tracks, all instrumental versions of the songs contained in the vinyl pressing. The vinyl release of the EP is single-sided, the B-side containing stencilled artwork by Dean Styers, who has in the past provided artwork for The Jesus Lizard, Aerosmith, and others. Chris Brokaw
Chris Brokaw (born August 1, 1964) is an American musician, best known for his work with the bands Come and Codeine. Life and career While studying at Oberlin College, Brokaw met many people who became figures on the American indie rock scene of the 1990s, among them Stephen Immerwahr, with whom Brokaw formed Codeine, as well as Sooyoung Park of Bitch Magnet and Seam, John McEntire of Tortoise, and Liz Phair. Soon after graduating from Oberlin, Brokaw played drums for a number of bands, including 7 Or 8 Worm Hearts and G.G. Allin. He then joined Codeine and played drums on their first two studio albums, as well as helping to kick-start Liz Phair's career. In 1990 he returned to the guitar, one of his two main instruments, and teamed up with Thalia Zedek (Dangerous Birds, Uzi, Live Skull), a well-known figure in New York's post- No Wave scene. Alternative Rock
Alternative rock, or alt-rock, is a category of rock music that emerged from the independent music underground of the 1970s and became widely popular in the 1990s. Post-rock
Post-rock is a form of experimental rock characterized by a focus on exploring textures and timbre over traditional rock song structures, chords, or riffs. Post-rock artists are often instrumental, typically combining rock instrumentation with electronics. The genre emerged within the indie and underground music scene of the 1980s and early 1990s. However, due to its abandonment of rock conventions, it often bears little resemblance musically to contemporary indie rock, borrowing instead from diverse sources including ambient, electronica, jazz, krautrock, dub, and minimalist classical. Artists such as Talk Talk and Slint have been credited with producing foundational works in the style in the early 1990s. Gambler's Ecstasy
''Gambler's Ecstasy'' is American musician Chris Brokaw's sixth solo studio album. Background The recording of ''Gambler's Ecstasy'' took place between 2008 and 2012 in a number of different studios: Soma in Chicago, IL; The Echo Lab in Denton, TX; and Soundhouse and The Track Shack both in Seattle, WA. The album was recorded by Matthew Barnhart, Matthew Brown, and Tim Iseler, and mixed by Matthew Barnhart and Chris Brokaw. CD and LP versions were released by Damnably and 12XU, respectively, on 2 October 2012. All its songs are Brokaw's compositions, with the exception of "Crooked" which was written and originally performed by Cincinnati indie rock band Wussy. Stencil
Stencilling produces an image or pattern on a surface, by applying pigment to a surface through an intermediate object, with designed holes in the intermediate object, to create a pattern or image on a surface, by allowing the pigment to reach only some parts of the surface. The Jesus Lizard
The Jesus Lizard is an American rock band formed in 1987 in Austin, Texas and based in Chicago, Illinois.
