Stordal is the administrative centre of Fjord Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The village is located on the eastern shore of the Storfjorden at the mouth of the river ''Stordalselva''. The village of Sjøholt (in neighboring Ålesund Municipality) lies about north of Stordal, on the other side of the Stordal Tunnel. The historic mountain farm, Ytste Skotet, lies about to the northwest, across the fjord. Old Stordal Church
Old Stordal Church ( no, Stordal gamle kyrkje) or the is a former parish church of the Church of Norway in Fjord Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located in the village of Stordal. It is now a museum owned by the Society for the Preservation of Ancient Norwegian Monuments. It was once the church for the Stordal parish which is part of the Nordre Sunnmøre prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Møre. Design The white, wooden church was built in an octagonal style in 1789 to replace an earlier stave church on the site. The building was designed by local priest Ebbe Carsten Tønder who died four years before construction was completed, so it must have been planned at the time of Norddal Church (completed 1782). Tønder came from Trondheim and may have been inspired by the two older octagonal churches there. Stordal Church
Stordal Church ( no, Stordal kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Fjord Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located in the village of Stordal. It is the church for the Stordal parish which is part of the Nordre Sunnmøre prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Møre. The white, wooden church was built in a long church style in 1907 using plans drawn up by the architect Jens Zetlitz Monrad Kielland. The church seats about 270 people. The church has a large steeple in the front. History The church was built in 1907 to replace the Old Stordal Church, located about to the east. The new church was built in 1907. It has a large tower on the west end of the nave. On the east end of the nave lies the choir which has a semi-circular apse on the east end. The choir is flanked by sacristies with slightly unusual shapes. Ytste Skotet
Ytste Skotet is a complete, preserved, historical farm located in Fjord Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The historic farmyard and museum, which is part of the Sunnmøre Museum Foundation, is located on the steep shores of the Storfjorden in the Sunnmøre district of the county. The farm is located across the fjord from the village of Dyrkorn. The ''Storfjordens Venner'' association owns ''Ytste Skotet'' and has orchestrated the restoration of the farm. Stordal Tunnel
The Stordal Tunnel ( no, Stordalstunnelen) is a long road tunnel in Fjord Municipality, Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The tunnel is located on Norwegian County Road 650, on the eastern shore of the Storfjorden. The tunnel goes through the mountain ''Stamneshornet'' between the village of Dyrkorn on the north end and it exits the mountain about northwest of the village of Stordal. The tunnel was officially opened on 27 June 1998 by Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik. The tunnel was part of a project to replace the old, narrow, avalanche-prone road that followed the shoreline of the fjord. The old road also included a short long tunnel section. Neither the old road nor the old tunnel are used anymore since the new tunnel provides a safer and shorter drive. Storfjorden (Sunnmøre)
Storfjorden or Storfjord is a long fjord in the Sunnmøre region of Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It stretches from the village of Hareid in the west to the villages of Tafjord and Geiranger in the east. The Storfjorden system branches off into several smaller fjords including the famous Geirangerfjord and Tafjorden. At the village of Stranda, the main fjord branches off into the Sunnylvsfjorden-Geirangerfjorden to the west and the Norddalsfjorden-Tafjorden to the east.
