Stop (Eric Burdon Band Album)
''Stop'' is a hard rock / R&B album by the first incarnation of the Eric Burdon Band, whose line-up consisted of Burdon, John Sterling, Kim Kesterson and Terry Ryan. The band was formed in 1971, after Burdon left his previous band War to cut an album with Jimmy Witherspoon. They recorded the 1971 album '' Guilty!'' and then, without Witherspoon, this album. Not released until July 1975, it featured no hit single, but did enjoy some American chart success, reaching both US and Canadian album charts. The distinctive red and white gatefold sleeve, together with the plain white inner-sleeve, are die-cut octagonally in the shape of a traffic stop sign. Inside the gatefold one surface bears a large black and white portrait of Burdon, based on a photograph. The Eric Burdon Band
Eric Victor Burdon (born 11 May 1941) is an English singer. He was previously the lead vocalist of R&B and rock band the Animals and funk band War. He is regarded as one of the British Invasion's most distinctive singers with his deep, powerful blues-rock voice. He is also known for his aggressive stage performances. In 2008, he was ranked 57th in ''Rolling Stone'''s list of "The 100 Greatest Singers of All Time". Early life Eric Burdon was born in 1941 in Walker, Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Jimmy Witherspoon
James Witherspoon (August 8, 1920 – September 18, 1997) was an American jump blues singer. Early life, family and education Witherspoon was born in Gurdon, Arkansas. His father was a railroad worker who sang in local choirs, and his mother was an avid piano player. Witherspoon's grandson Ahkello Witherspoon is the starting cornerback for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Witherspoon eventually joined the Merchant Marines. Career Witherspoon first attracted attention singing in Calcutta, India, with Teddy Weatherford's band, which made regular radio broadcasts over the US Armed Forces Radio Service during World War II. Witherspoon made his first records with Jay McShann's band in 1945. Alvin Taylor (born March 26, 1953) is an American drummer, producer and musical director, who is best known for his work with Elton John, Eric Burdon, George Harrison, Billy Preston, and Bob Welch. Early life and career Alvin Taylor started playing drums at the age of 5. Aalon is an American soul group from Los Angeles formed by lead singer and guitarist Aalon Butler. A stop sign is a traffic sign designed to notify drivers that they must come to a complete stop and make sure the intersection is safely clear of vehicles and pedestrians before continuing past the sign. Gatefold
A gatefold cover or gatefold LP is a form of packaging for LP records that became popular in the mid-1960s. A gatefold cover, when folded, is the same size as a standard LP cover (i.e., a 12½ inch, or 32.7 centimetre square). The larger gatefold cover provided a means of including artwork, liner notes, and/or song lyrics, which would otherwise not have fit on a standard record cover. It became famous as an extension of progressive rock, as the expansive, transient gatefolds by artists such as Roger Dean, H. R. Giger, or Hipgnosis became associated with concept albums.
