"Stoned" is a 1980 episode of the American television anthology series ''ABC Afterschool Special'', which aired on November 12, 1980 and starring Scott Baio. It was featured as the fourth episode in the program's ninth season. Plot Jack Melon (Scott Baio) is a gangling and awkward teenage freshman who doesn't fit in at his local high school. Distracted by a new girl in school named Felicity (Largo Woodruff), Jack bumps into Teddy (Jeffrey Frichner), a classmate who is a reputed marijuana user and pusher. Teddy's drug habit is outed in the Spanish class that Jack and Teddy share. Mr. David (John Herzfeld in his major TV acting debut), the teacher, orders Teddy to stand up after catching him sleeping at his desk. Mr. David tells him "Don't come to class stoned!" Later, Jack catches Teddy and Alan (Steve Monarque also in his major TV acting debut) smoking pot in the boys' room. Teddy offers him a chance to try it. Jack refuses. ABC Afterschool Special
''ABC Afterschool Special'' is an American television anthology series that aired on American Broadcasting Company, ABC from October 4, 1972, to January 23, 1997, usually in the late afternoon on weekdays. Most episodes were dramatically presented situations, often controversial, of interest to children and teenagers. Several episodes were either in animated form or presented as documentaries. Topics included illiteracy, substance abuse and teenage pregnancy. The series won 51 Daytime Emmy Awards during its 25-year run. In 2004 and 2005, BCI Eclipse and Sunset Home Visual Entertainment issued six DVD collections of episodes from the series that had been produced by Martin Tahse, each collection containing four episodes. A boxed set, in the shape of a school bus, was also released containing all of the DVD releases, with a detailed information booklet of all the specials on the set and including an extra DVD of two specials that had previously not been released on DVD. John Herzfeld
John Herzfeld (born April 15, 1947) is an American film and television director, screenwriter, actor and producer. His feature film directing credits include '' Two of a Kind'' (1983), ''2 Days in the Valley'' (1996), ''15 Minutes'' (2001) and ''The Death and Life of Bobby Z'' (2007). He has also directed numerous made-for-television movies, including '' The Ryan White Story'' (1989), ''The Preppie Murder'' (1989), '' Casualties of Love: The "Long Island Lolita" Story'' (1993), and '' Don King: Only in America'' (1997) for which he was nominated for an Emmy and won the DGA award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Dramatic Specials. He won a Daytime Emmy Award for directing the 1980 '' ABC Afterschool Special'' titled " Stoned".
