Stone House by the Stone House Brook, also known as ''Old Stone House'', is located at 219 South Orange Avenue in South Orange, Essex County, New Jersey, United States. It is one of the oldest extant structures in New Jersey, the original portion house built prior to 1680. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 22, 1991, for its significance in historic archaeology, education, community planning and development, and politics/government. With History The earliest reference to the Stone House by Stone House Brook dates to September 27, 1680, when it was mentioned in the minutes of a Newark town meeting to discuss and distribute land grants. It would have been built sometime after 1660 when the Dutch settled Bergen.
