Stokesley Sports Club Football Club is a football club based in Stokesley, North Yorkshire, England. They are currently members of the and play at the Stokesley Sports Club. History Formed in 1920, the club spent most of the 20th century participating in local leagues before joining the Teesside League in 1994 before progressing to the Wearside League in 1999. Seven years later the club was accepted into the Northern League. In each of their first two seasons at the higher level, Stokesley finished near the middle of the table. Promotion has also enabled the club to participate in national competitions - in the FA Vase their best performance came in 2008–09 when they reached the Second Round, and during the same season they made their debut in the FA Cup, beating Washington in the Extra Preliminary round before losing to Wakefield in the preliminary round. Stokesley is a market town and civil parish in the Hambleton District of North Yorkshire, England, formerly a part of the historic North Riding of Yorkshire. It lies on the River Leven. An electoral ward, of the same name, stretches north to Newby and had a population at the 2011 Census of 5,537. Stokesley is about two miles south of the Middlesbrough borough boundary and eight miles south of Middlesbrough town centre. The Tesco Cup was an association football competition for young footballers ran in the United Kingdom and sponsored by the retail group Tesco. There were three separate tournaments, a boys' Under 13, a girls' Under 14 and a girls' Under 16. Any team was eligible to enter the draw as long as they were affiliated with their County Football Association who were offered a 'grassroots grant' by Tesco to run the tournaments. In each country the progress to the final stages of the tournament were different: *England - County Cup (i.e. Birmingham County Football Association) winners competed in the Regional Cup (i.e. West Midlands). The Football Association Challenge Vase, usually referred to as the FA Vase, is an annual football competition for teams playing in Steps 5 and 6 of the English National League System (or equivalently, tier 9 or 10 of the overall English football league system). For the 2017–18 season 619 entrants were accepted, with two qualifying rounds preceding the six proper rounds, semi-finals (played over two legs) and final to be played at Wembley Stadium.
