Stockholm Federation Of Student Unions
The Stockholm Federation of Student Unions ( sv, Stockholms studentkårers centralorganisation, SSCO) is an organisation for cooperation between students' unions in the Stockholm region. Through its 52 affiliated student unions SSCO represents around 80 000 students. Founded in 1896, the organisation’s original focus was providing services to the students in Stockholm. Since then SSCO has moved towards working as a lobby organisation and today the main focus of SSCO is influencing politicians on the local, regional and national levels. The organisation's presiding officers represent the students towards the City of Stockholm, the Stockholm County Council, the Stockholm County Administrative Board, and within the Assembly for Presidents and Vice-Chancellors of the universities and university colleges in Stockholm. Stockholm Municipality or the City of Stockholm ( sv, Stockholms kommun or ) is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. It has the largest population of the 290 municipalities of the country, but one of the smallest areas, making it the second most densely populated. A county administrative board ( sv, länsstyrelse) is a Swedish Government Agency in each of the counties of Sweden, led by a vice-regal governor ( sv, landshövding) appointed by the government for a term of six years. The lists of gubernatorial officeholders, in most cases, stretches back to 1634 when the counties were created by Chancellor Axel Oxenstierna. The main responsibilities of the county administrative board is to coordinate the development of the county in line with goals set in national politics. The Student Union at the Royal Institute of Technology (''Tekniska Högskolans Studentkår'' or THS) is the students' union at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. The Swedish National Union of Students ( sv, Sveriges Förenade Studentkårer, SFS), is an umbrella organisation of students' unions at higher education facilities in Sweden. The organisation was founded in 1921. It has around 47 affiliated students' unions, gathering around 270,000 students (2012). The large number of organised students can in part be explained by the fact that membership in the official local students' union was mandatory for students at universities and university colleges in Sweden until 2010.
