Stina Swartling
Stina Swartling (née von Hofsten; 28 June 1858 – 26 November 1929), was a Swedish writer. In 1899, Swartling founded a garden school, which she branded as Sweden's first women-only garden school. Valåsen Manor
Valåsen Manor ( sv, Valåsens herrgård, ) is a manor house at Valåsen och Labbsand. The manor is located in Karlskoga Municipality, Örebro County, Sweden. The current-standing manor house was built in the 18th century, but the history of the property is older. Valåsen Manor is one of Karlskoga's major historical buildings. The manor is associated with several Swedish writers including Selma Lagerlöf, Hjalmar Bergman, Erik Gustaf Geijer and Sven Stolpe. Geography Valåsen Manor is near the course of the River Valån, east of Lake Möckeln, uphill on a sloping site. It is bounded notionally by Kilsbergen and Lake Angsjön, to the east. Karlskoga () is a locality and the seat of Karlskoga Municipality, Sweden. Located within Örebro County, 45 km (28 mi) west of Örebro, and 10 km (6 mi) north of Degerfors. With a 2020 population of 27,386 distributed over 10.55 square miles (27.33 km2), Karlskoga is the second-largest city in both Örebro County and the historical province of Värmland. Erland Von Hofsten (ironmaster, Born 1780)
Erland von Hofsten (; 19 September 1780 – 10 December 1839), was a Swedish ironmaster, and heir to the Valåsen Works. Life and work Erland von Hofsten was born on September 19, 1780, at Valåsen Manor, Karlskoga, Sweden, and was the first of nine children of Bengt and Christina Lovisa von Hofsten (née Geijer). His father was an ironmaster at Valåsen Works. In 1793, he enrolled at Uppsala University. In 1805, he served as a clerk at the administrative courts of appeal in Sweden. In 1822, Erland von Hofsten married Johanna Nordenfeldt. The couple's daughter, Johanna Christina von Hofsten, was a children's writer. Hofsten died on December 10, 1810, in Stockholm. He and his wife were buried at the Karlskoga Old Cemetery, near Karlskoga Church. Johanna Christina von Hofsten (; 3 September 1832 – 19 December 1913) was a Swedish-language children's writer. Life and work Johanna Christina von Hofsten was born into the von Hofsten family at Valåsen Manor in Karlskoga Socken (present-day Valåsen och Labbsand). She was the fourth of five children to Ironmaster Erland von Hofsten and Johanna Fredrika Nordenfelt. Von Hofsten died on 19 December 1913 in Gerum socken.
