''Still Serious'' is the second solo studio album by American rapper Big Mike (rapper), Big Mike. It was released on April 8, 1997, via Rap-A-Lot Records. Production of the album was handled by Mike Dean (record producer), Mike Dean, Mike B., Loranzo Samuels, Anthony Dent and N.O. Joe. This album proved to be the most successful of Big Mike's solo releases, peaking at #16 on the Billboard 200, ''Billboard'' 200 and #3 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. ''Somethin' Serious'' is the debut solo studio album by American rapper Big Mike of the Geto Boys. It was released on June 28, 1994 via Rap-A-Lot Records. Production of the album was handled by N.O. Joe, Troy Clark, Pimp C, John Bido, Mike Dean, Crazy C and Mike B. It also features guest appearances from UGK, Scarface and Mr. 3-2. The album peaked at number 40 on the ''Billboard'' 200 chart and at number 4 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. It launched the charting single "World of Mind", which peaked at number 45 on the Hot Rap Songs chart. ''Somethin' Serious'' was certified Gold four months after release, the LP remains Big Mike's only RIAA certification. Rap-A-Lot is a hip hop record label co-founded by James Prince and Cliff Blodget in 1986. Smoke-a-Lot Records is a subsidiary. Rap-A-Lot was first distributed by A&M Records with the release of Raheem's 1988 debut ''The Vigilante''. The label was distributed through the 1990s by EMI's Priority Records (1991–1994), Noo Trybe Records (1994-1998), and Virgin Records (1998–2002). In the 2000s, it was distributed by Asylum Records and then Fontana Distribution. On August 22, 2013, Rap-A-Lot announced a distribution deal with RED Distribution. History The label was formed filling in a gap for recognition and promotion of southern talent especially in the Houston area. This was in part to label executives in other parts of the country passing on southern hip hop acts. During this period, DJ's from the east coast had been exploiting the region and pushing music from their domestic territories instead. Michael Lawrence Tyler (born September 22, 1970), better known by his stage name Mystikal, is an American rapper. Early life and education Tyler grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana's 12th Ward. His father, who ran a small neighborhood store, died when Tyler was seven. He attended Cohen High School and afterward joined the United States Army as a combat engineer. As an aspiring rapper, he opened for Run-DMC and Doug E. Fresh at an outdoor concert at the Treme Center. Leroy "Precise" Edwards, the house producer for Big Boy Records, was in the audience, and granted him a contract.
