''Still Life'' is the second album of rock band Dukes, and was released on November 8, 2010 through Play Nicely. The album features three singles, the gold NZ Top 10 hit "Vampires", "Self Control" and "Time is a Train". Background The album was recorded at York St Studios & Studio 203 in Auckland, New Zealand. It was produced by Godfrey De Grut, Andrew Buckton & Dukes and engineered and mixed by Andrew Buckton. All songs were written by lead singer Matt Barus. Singles *'Vampires": In June 2009, the first single to be lifted off the album was released. The single performed well on the radio and television debuting on the New Zealand Singles Chart at #32. The Dukes are a five-piece rock band from Christchurch, New Zealand. Their debut album, ''Lil Sunshine'', was released in 2005. Their second album, ''Still Life'', was released in 2010 throughout New Zealand spawning the Gold certified Top 10 single "Vampires". Music career Early beginnings The Dukes formed in early 2003 as a result of a band name change. Formerly known as Deluxeboy. The four piece featured brothers, Matt and Jo Barus, Brad Banks and Fausia Fialele. The name of the Dukes comes from the cult classic seventies television show The Dukes of Hazzard. "Vampires" is a pop/rock track by New Zealand rock band the Dukes. It's the first single to be taken from the Dukes forthcoming sophomore LP "''Still Life''", after the band decided against including their two previous singles on this release. Song information "Vampires" was originally released as a digital download single on June 26, 2009 and then re-released online January 24, 2010. The song was nominated at the APRA Silver Scroll Awards for New Zealand’s most prestigious songwriting award. "Vampires" was performed live on the TV3 New Zealand 2009 Telethon "The Big Night In" on August 8, 2009. "Self Control" is a pop/rock track by New Zealand rock band the Dukes. It is the second single to be taken from the Dukes sophomore LP "''Still Life''". It will be the follow-up single to their New Zealand Top 10 single "Vampires". Song information "Self Control" was released digitally on February 14, 2010 and sent to radio late April 2010 for a wide release in May. The single was less commercially successful than their previous Top 10 hit. It did prove to have more success though on radio and in video format.
