The Stig
The Stig is a character from the British motoring television show ''Top Gear''. Created by former ''Top Gear'' presenter Jeremy Clarkson and producer Andy Wilman, the character is a play on the anonymity of racing drivers' full-face helmets, with the running joke that nobody knows who or what is inside the Stig's racing suit. The Stig's primary role is setting lap times for cars tested on the show. Previously, he would also instruct celebrity guests, off-camera, for the show's " Star in a Reasonably Priced Car" segment. The identity of the original "Black" Stig, Perry McCarthy, was exposed by a Sunday newspaper in January 2003, and confirmed by McCarthy later that year. The black-suited Stig was subsequently "killed off" that October in the series 3 premiere, and replaced in the following episode by a new White Stig who lasted through to the end of series 15. In series 13 episode 1, the show jokingly unmasked the Stig as seven-time world champion F1 driver Michael Schumacher. ... Ty Templeton
Tyrone Templeton is a Canadian comic book artist and writer who has drawn a number of mainstream titles, TV-associated titles, and his own series. Career Templeton first received attention for ''Stig's Inferno'' (Vortex Comics), now a cult favourite, which detailed the journey of its lead character into Hell in a parody of Dante's ''The Divine Comedy''. Templeton recalled that after reading the three books of The Divine Comedy, "I fell in love with them as stories. It took a bit to get past the language translations, but for a year or so, I was reading different versions, off and on, as my reading on subways and buses, getting to and from school." Templeton first transferred this inspiration into comic book form with the intent of making it a strip in his campus newspaper, but ended up shelving the project until Vortex publisher William P. Marks suggested that he make it into a series. According to Marks, of the five series that Vortex was publishing at the time, ''Stig's Infern ... The Rutles
The Rutles () were a rock band that performed visual and aural pastiches and parodies of the Beatles. This originally fictional band, created by Eric Idle and Neil Innes for a sketch in Idle's mid-1970s BBC television comedy series ''Rutland Weekend Television'', later toured and recorded, releasing two albums that included two UK chart hits. The band toured again from 2002 until Innes' death in 2019. Encouraged by the positive public reaction to the sketch, Idle wrote the mockumentary television film ''All You Need Is Cash'' (1978, aka ''The Rutles''). Idle co-directed the film with Gary Weis; it featured 20 Beatles' music pastiches written by Innes, which he performed with three musicians as the Rutles. A soundtrack album in 1978 was followed in 1996 by ''Archaeology'', which spoofed the then-recent ''Beatles Anthology'' series. A second film, '' The Rutles 2: Can't Buy Me Lunch'' (modelled on the 2000 TV special ''The Beatles Revolution'') was made in 2002 and released in th ... Security Technical Implementation Guide
A Security Technical Implementation Guide or STIG is a configuration standard consisting of cybersecurity requirements for a specific product. The use of STIGs enables a methodology for securing protocols within networks, servers, computers, and logical designs to enhance overall security. These guides, when implemented, enhance security for software, hardware, physical and logical architectures to further reduce vulnerabilities. Examples where STIGs would be of benefit is in the configuration of a desktop computer or an enterprise server. Most operating systems are not inherently secure, which leaves them open to criminals such as identity thieves and computer hackers. A STIG describes how to minimize network-based attacks and prevent system access when the attacker is interfacing with the system, either physically at the machine or over a network. STIGs also describe maintenance processes such as software updates and vulnerability patching. Advanced STIGs might cover the design ... Cheng Cycle
The Cheng cycle is a thermodynamic cycle which uses a combination of two working fluids, one gas and one steam. It can therefore be considered a combination of the Brayton cycle and the Rankine cycle. It was named for Dr. Dah Yu Cheng. The company founded by Dr. Cheng has developed systems in partnership with both GM and GE turbine manufacturers to take advantage of the Cheng cycle by modification of existing turbine designs before construction. The Cheng cycle involves the heated exhaust gas from the turbine being used to make steam in a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG). The steam so produced is injected into the gas turbine's combustion chamber to increase power output. The process can be thought of as a parallel combination of the gas turbine Brayton cycle and a steam turbine Rankine cycle. The cycle was invented by Prof. Dah Yu Cheng of the University of Santa Clara who patented it in 1976. [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |
