Stig Larsson (ice Hockey)
Stig Larsson (born November 22, 1947) is a Swedish retired ice hockey player. Career Larsson began playing hockey in Nacka SK, but joined Djurgårdens IF, where he played until he ended his career. He was part of Sweden's 1972 World Championship team that won bronze. Larsson became team captain for the 1976–77 season. Larsson was awarded "Rinkens Riddare", as the gentleman of the 1977–78 season. When he ended his playing career in 1979, Mats Waltin succeeded him as team captain. Forward (ice Hockey)
In ice hockey, a forward is a player, and a position on the ice, whose primary responsibility is to score and assist goals. Generally, the forwards try to stay in three different lanes of the ice going from goal to goal. It is not mandatory, however, to stay in a lane. Staying in a lane aids in forming the common offensive strategy known as a triangle. One forward obtains the puck and then the forwards pass it between themselves making the goalie move side to side. This strategy opens up the net for scoring opportunities. This strategy allows for a constant flow of the play, attempting to maintain the control of play by one team in the offensive zone. The forwards can pass to the defence players playing at the blue line, thus freeing up the play and allowing either a shot from the point (blue line position where the defence stands) or a pass back to the offence. Djurgårdens IF Hockey
Djurgårdens IF Ishockeyförening – commonly known as Djurgårdens IF, Djurgården Hockey, Djurgården () – is a professional ice hockey team based in Stockholm, Sweden, affiliated with the Djurgårdens IF umbrella organization. Djurgården is currently playing in the Swedish second tier ice hockey league, the HockeyAllsvenskan. Djurgården is the most successful Swedish hockey team of all time, as 16-time Swedish champions, 12-time runners-up, and leaders of the marathon table for the top flight of Swedish hockey. Nacka
Nacka () is the municipal seat of Nacka Municipality and part of Stockholm urban area in Sweden. The municipality's name harks back to a 16th-century industrial operation established by the Crown at Nacka farmstead where conditions for water mills are good. Swedish Ice Hockey Association
The Swedish Ice Hockey Association ( sv, Svenska Ishockeyförbundet (SIF)) in Swedish, is an association of Swedish ice hockey clubs. It was established in Stockholm on 17 November 1922 by representatives from seven clubs. Before then, organized ice hockey in Sweden had been administered by the Swedish Football Association. In 1920, Sweden became a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). In addition to ice hockey, SIF is also responsible for inline hockey. Mats Waltin
Mats Stefan Waltin (born 7 October 1953) is a Swedish ice hockey coach and former player. During his career he played 236 international matches and won Olympic bronze medals in 1980 and 1984, world championship silvers in 1977 and 1981, and world championship bronzes in 1975, 1976 and 1979. A the European championships he won silver medals in 1976, 1977 and 1981 and bronzes in 1975, 1978, 1979 and 1983. He was a member of the Swedish 1976 Canada Cup and 1981 Canada Cup teams and served as the team captain at the 1980 Olympics and as the Olympic flag bearer for Sweden at the 1984 games. He was awarded the Stora Grabbars och Tjejers Märke #97 in ice hockey. Bert-Ola Nordlander
Bert-Ola Nordlander (born 12 August 1938) is a retired Swedish ice hockey player and head coach. During his career he played for Wifsta/Östrand IF and AIK. In 1967 he was awarded the Golden Puck as the best player of the season. Nordlander began his coaching career in 1976 when he signed with Hammarby IF. In 1979 he moved to DjurgÃ¥rdens IF and stayed there until 1981. AIK retired the number 5 in his honour. 1972 World Ice Hockey Championships
The 1972 Ice Hockey World Championships was the 39th edition of the Ice Hockey World Championships. The tournament was held in Prague, Czechoslovakia from 7 to 22 April 1972, and the Czechoslovakia national team won the tournament, the third time they had done so and first since 1949, ending the Soviet Union's streak of nine consecutive titles. In addition it was the Czechoslovaks' 12th European title. For the first time, a separate tournament is held for both the World Championships and the Winter Olympics. Previously, the Winter Olympics tournament was held in lieu of a world championships, with the winner being declared world champion for that year. Kvalserien, also known as ''Kvalserien till SHL'', was the Swedish round-robin ice hockey tournament to qualify for play in the next season of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL, previously named Elitserien), Sweden's top-level ice hockey league for men. It was replaced by a playoff round in the 2014–15 season. Teams Kvalserien was formed after the regular seasons of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL, previously named Elitserien) and the second-tier league HockeyAllsvenskan had been played. Swedish Hockey League
The Swedish Hockey League (officially SHL; sv, Svenska Hockeyligan) is a professional ice hockey league, and the highest division in the Swedish ice hockey system. The league currently consists of 14 teams. The league was founded in 1975, and while Swedish ice hockey champions have been crowned through various formats since 1922, the title and the Le Mat Trophy have been awarded to the winner of the SHL playoffs since the league's inaugural 1975–76 season. In the 2010–11 season, the SHL was the world's most evenly matched professional ice hockey league.
