Stick Around (film)
''Stick Around'' is a 1925 American silent comedy film directed by Ward Hayes and starring Oliver Hardy. It was later released as ''The Paperhanger's Helper''. Plot A toff-like gent gets his cigarette lit by a chauffeur next to a large car and two young women ask him to sit between them on a bench. He invites them for a ride in his car... but it is not the chauffeur-driven limo... it is a small roadster behind. One slaps him and they walk off. His car jumps back 10 feet each time he cranks it. A gent crossing he road to greet a woman gets hit during a sudden reverse. He gets covered in soot when the car back-fires. When he reaches the women now in blackface the woman slaps him. In a workshop Babe Hardy paces up and down looking at the clock... his employee is late. In a sanitarium Dr Brown is hit by plaster falling from the ceiling. A nurse comes to help him. Billy West (silent Film Actor)
Billy West (September 22, 1892 – July 21, 1975) was a film actor, producer, and director. Active during the silent film era, he is best known as a semi-successful Charlie Chaplin impersonator. Beyond acting, he also directed shorts in the 1910s and 20s, as well as produced films. West ultimately retired in 1935. Early career Born Roy B. Weisberg (or ''Weissberg'') in the Russian Empire to a Jewish family, West emigrated to Chicago with his family in 1896. He appeared in many short films, first in ''Apartment No. 13'' in 1912. Chaplin impersonation In 1917 movie theaters could not get enough Charlie Chaplin comedies, and an enterprising producer hired West, who had been doing comic pantomimes on the vaudeville stage, to make imitation-Chaplin subjects to meet the demand. West, wearing the identical "tramp" costume and makeup, copied Chaplin's movements and gestures so accurately that he is often mistaken for the genuine performer. The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus (also known as the Ringling Bros. Circus, Ringling Bros., the Barnum & Bailey Circus, Barnum & Bailey, or simply Ringling) is an American traveling circus company billed as The Greatest Show on Earth. Harry McCoy
Harry McCoy (December 10, 1893 – September 1, 1937) was an American film actor and screenwriter. He appeared in more than 150 films between 1912 and 1935. Early years McCoy was born on December 10, 1893, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the firstborn of George Washington McCoy and Alberta Keel. His family moved to California in 1910. His had a sister, Alberta. Career McCoy's early experience in entertainment was in vaudeville, where he played a piano and sang. He joined Universal's Joker Comedy brand in 1912, and the following year teamed with Max Asher to form Mike and Jake for Joker. In 1913, he worked at Universal and Keystone at the same time and was one of the original Keystone Cops. At Triangle Keystone, McCoy directed 15 films. He stayed with the post-Sennett Keystone until August 1917, then made a brief return to vaudeville with the Pantages circuit. Bobby Ray (born Wilhelm Robert McBain Fuehrer, October 6, 1899 – March 26, 1957) was an American film comedian of the silent era. He appeared in more than sixty short films between 1914 and 1927, including a group from the mid-1920s featuring Oliver Hardy. He was originally a child actor.Roots p.365 In addition he directed six short films and two feature films ''Riley of the Rainbow Division'' and ''Dugan of the Dugouts'' (both 1928). Following the arrival of sound, Ray developed a new career as an assistant director that continued into the 1950s. Ringling Brothers
The Ringling brothers (originally Rüngling) were seven American siblings who transformed their small touring company of performers into one of the largest circuses in the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Four brothers were born in McGregor, Iowa: Alfred T., Charles, John and Henry William, and the family lived in McGregor for twelve years, from 1860 until 1872. The Ringling family then moved to Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, and finally settled in Baraboo, Wisconsin, in 1875. They were of German and French descent, the children of harness maker Heinrich Friedrich August Ringling (1826–1898) of Hanover, and Marie Salome Juliar (1833–1907) of Ostheim, in Alsace.
