Clan Stewart
Clan Stewart (Gaelic: ''Stiùbhart'') is a Scottish Highland and Lowland clan. The clan is recognised by Court of the Lord Lyon; however, it does not have a Clan Chief recognised by the Lord Lyon King of Arms. Because the clan has no chief it can be considered an armigerous clan; however, the Earls of Galloway are now considered to be the principal branch of this clan, and the crest and motto of The Earls of Galloway's arms are used in the Clan Stewart crest badge. The Court of the Lord Lyon recognises two other Stewart/Stuart clans, Clan Stuart of Bute and Clan Stewart of Appin. Clan Stuart of Bute is the only one of the three clans at present which has a recognised chief. History Origins of the Clan The Stewarts who became monarchs of Scotland were descended from a family who were seneschals (stewards) of Dol in Brittany, France. After the Norman conquest of England, the Stewarts acquired estates in England as the FitzAlan family, also Earls of Arundel. Walter Flaad or Wal ...

Stewart–Tolman Effect
The Stewart–Tolman effect is a phenomenon in electrodynamics caused by the finite mass of electrons in conducting metal, or, more generally, the finite mass of charge carriers in an electrical conductor. It is named after T. Dale Stewart and Richard C. Tolman, two American physicists who carried out their experimental work in the 1910s. This eponym appears to be first used by Lev Landau. In a conducting body undergoing accelerating motion, inertia causes the electrons in the body to "lag" behind the overall motion. In the case of linear acceleration, negative charge accumulates at the end of the body; while for rotation the negative charge accumulates at the outer rim. The accumulation of charges can be measured by a galvanometer. This effect is proportional to the mass of the charge carriers. It is much more significant in electrolyte conductors than metals, because ions An ion () is an atom or molecule with a net electrical charge. The charge of an electron is ...

Stewart's Theorem
In geometry, Stewart's theorem yields a relation between the lengths of the sides and the length of a cevian in a triangle. Its name is in honour of the Scottish mathematician Matthew Stewart, who published the theorem in 1746. Statement Let be the lengths of the sides of a triangle. Let be the length of a cevian to the side of length . If the cevian divides the side of length into two segments of length and , with adjacent to and adjacent to , then Stewart's theorem states that :b^2m + c^2n = a(d^2 + mn). A common mnemonic used by students to memorize this equation (after rearranging the terms) is: :\underset = \!\!\!\!\!\! \underset The theorem may be written more symmetrically using signed lengths of segments. That is, take the length to be positive or negative according to whether is to the left or right of in some fixed orientation of the line. In this formulation, the theorem states that if are collinear points, and is any point, then :\left(\overline^2\ ...
