Steven Markovitz
Steven Markovitz (born 1965) is a South African film and television producer. He has produced, co-produced and executive-produced features, documentaries and short films. Steven has been producing and distributing for over 20 years. Since 2007, he has worked all over Africa producing documentary series' and fiction. He is a member of AMPAS, co-founder of Electric South & Encounters Documentary Festival and the founder of the African Screen Network. ''High Fantasy'' is a 2017 South African comedy film directed by Jenna Bass. It was screened in the Discovery section at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival. Proteus (2003 Film)
''Proteus'' is a film by Canadian director John Greyson. The film, based on an early 18th century court record from Cape Town, explores the romantic relationship between two prisoners, one black and one white, at Robben Island in South Africa in the 18th century. Although the film premiered at the 2003 Toronto International Film Festival, it did not have a general theatrical release until 2005. Plot Set in 18th-century South Africa, the film dramatizes the true story of Claas Blank (Rouxnet Brown) and Rijkhaart Jacobsz (Neil Sandilands), two prisoners on Robben Island. Herder Claas Blank was serving 10 years for "insulting a Dutch citizen" and Rijkhaart was a Dutch sailor convicted of committing "unnatural acts" with another man. VPRO
The VPRO (stylized vpro; originally an acronym for , ) is a Dutch public broadcaster, which forms a part of the Dutch public broadcasting system. Founded in 1926 as a liberal Protestant broadcasting organization, it gradually became more social liberal than Protestant in the 1950s and 1960s, and the original meaning of the acronym was eventually dropped. In 1967, VPRO was the first broadcaster in the Netherlands to show a nude woman – Phil Bloom – on national television. The VPRO is known for sometimes producing avant-garde programs, documentaries and films. The target audience of the VPRO consists mainly of highly educated and creative people (e.g. artists, designers, scientists). SBS Broadcasting Group (SBS), formerly Scandinavian Broadcasting Systems, was a European multinational media group, operating commercial television, premium pay channels, radio stations and related print businesses in Northern, Western and Central and Eastern Europe. Arte
Arte (; (), sometimes stylized in lowercase or uppercase in its logo) is a European public service channel dedicated to culture. It is made up of three separate companies: the Strasbourg-based European Economic Interest Grouping ARTE, plus two member companies acting as editorial and programme production centres, ARTE France in Paris (formerly known as La Sept) and ARTE Deutschland in Baden-Baden (a subsidiary of the two main public German TV networks ARD and ZDF). Jihan El-Tahri
Jihan El-Tahri ( ar, ﺟﻬﺎﻥ ﺍلطاهري; born in Beirut, Lebanon) is a writer, director and producer of documentary films. She is a French and Egyptian national. In 1984, she received her BA in political science, and in 1986 her MA in political science from the American University in Cairo. She worked as a news correspondent with '' U.S. News & World Report'' and Reuters, TV researcher, and associate producer in Tunisia, Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, Algeria, and Egypt between 1984 and 1990. As a correspondent, El-Tahri covered politics in the Middle East. In 1990, El-Tahri started directing and producing documentaries for French television, and for the BBC since 1995. The Tribeca Festival is an annual film festival organized by TriBeCa Productions, Tribeca Productions. It takes place each spring in New York City, showcasing a diverse selection of film, episodic, talks, music, games, art, and immersive programming. International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam
The International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) is the world's largest documentary film festival held annually since 1988 in Amsterdam. Over a period of twelve days, it has screened more than 300 films and sold more than 250,000 tickets. Visitors to the festival have increased from 65,000 in 2000 to 285,000 in 2018. The festival is an independent, international meeting place for audiences and professionals to see a diverse (in form, content, and cultural background) program of high-quality documentaries. Timothy John Greene (born 1969 in Cape Town, South Africa) is a South African actor, film director, and writer. He is also known as Tim Greene and cited under that name in most articles about him. The making of ''Boy Called Twist'' Greene's first feature film '' Boy Called Twist'' was an innovation in South African film finance. In 2002 Greene put out a call that he was looking for 1000 investors who could each risk R1000.00, (app US$145) spreading the risk across a broad community of like-minded people.
