Steven Evans (cricketer)
Steven Nernez Evans (born 17 September 1967) is a former Sint Maartener cricketer. A right-handed batsman, Evans was selected in Sint Maarten's squad for the 2006 Stanford 20/20, playing in their preliminary round loss to the United States Virgin Islands (USVI). Batting at number six, Evans scored 36 in Sint Maarten's innings, but was dismissed by Calvin Lewis. His was the top-score in Sint Maarten's innings of 98 all out. Earlier in the match he took one catch, helping to dismiss Dale Africa off the bowling of John Eugene. The USVI won the match convincingly by a margin of 47 runs. This marks his only appearance in Twenty20 cricket. He later continued to play minor inter-island matches for Sint Maarten, occasionally playing as the team's wicket-keeper, but was eventually replaced in the side by Mohit Hingorani. Wicket-keeper
The wicket-keeper in the sport of cricket is the player on the fielding side who stands behind the wicket or stumps being watchful of the batsman and ready to take a catch, stump the batsman out and run out a batsman when occasion arises. The wicket-keeper is the only member of the fielding side permitted to wear gloves and external leg guards. The role of the keeper is governed by Law 27 of the Laws of Cricket. Dale Garfieldson Africa (born 14 September 1981) is a West Indian cricketer. Africa is a right-handed batsman who bowls right-arm slow-medium. In February 2006, the United States Virgin Islands were invited to take part in the 2006 Stanford 20/20, whose matches held official Twenty20 status. Africa made two appearances in the tournament, in a preliminary round victory against St Maarten and in a first-round defeat against St Vincent and the Grenadines. Against St Maarten he scored 15 runs from 10 balls, before being dismissed by John Eugene. Against St Vincent and the Grenadines he was dismissed for a 2 runs by Kenroy Martin. From their first match in 2006 to their final match in 2008, seventeen players represented the Sint Maarten national cricket team in Twenty20 (T20) matches in the Stanford 20/20. A Twenty20 is a cricket match between two representative teams of one twenty over innings per side. Sint Maarten is first recorded fielding a representative team in 2000. In regional domestic cricket, Sint Maarten plays as part of the Leeward Islands cricket team, which holds first-class, List A (neither of which Sint Maarten has ever held) and Twenty20 status. John Eugene (born 16 August 1970) is a former Saint Lucian cricketer who played for the Windward Islands and several other teams in West Indian domestic cricket. He was a right-handed middle-order batsman. In February 2006, Lewis played for the United States Virgin Islands in the 2006 Stanford 20/20, whose matches held official Twenty20 status. Sint Maarten National Cricket Team
The Sint Maarten cricket team has represented the Dutch Overseas Territory of Sint Maarten in cricket. The team is not a member of the International Cricket Council, but is a member of the Leeward Islands Cricket Association, which itself is a member association of the West Indies Cricket Board, and players from Sint Maarten generally represent the Leeward Islands cricket team at domestic level and the West Indies at international level. Sint Maarten has however played as a separate entity in matches which held Twenty20 status, but has not appeared in first-class or List A cricket.
