Steven Brooks (Nevada Politician)
Steven Brooks is a former American politician who served as a Democratic Party (United States), Democratic member of the Nevada Assembly. He represented District 19 from 2011 to 2012, and District 17 from February 4, 2013, to March 28, 2013. Brooks became the first lawmaker to be expelled from the Nevada State Legislature. Prior to winning elective office, Brooks was a teacher. After being passed over for a committee position, Brooks allegedly threatened to kill Nevada State Legislature House Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick. A month later he was arrested on a charge of domestic battery and resisting arrest. Police also found a gun in his possession which was not registered to him. He was then expelled from the Nevada legislature by a two thirds vote. A few hours later he was arrested again after a high speed chase in California. The Nevada Assembly is the lower house of the Nevada Legislature, the state legislature (United States), state legislature of the U.S. state of Nevada, the upper house being the Nevada Senate. The body consists of 42 members, elected to two-year terms from single-member districts. Each district contained approximately 64,299 people as of the 2010 United States Census. The Nevada Legislature is a bicameral body, consisting of the lower house, the Assembly, with 42 members, and the upper house, the Senate, with 21. With a total of 63 seats, the Legislature is the third-smallest bicameral state legislature in the United States, after Alaska's (60 members) and Delaware's (62). Marilyn Kaye Kirkpatrick (born March 11, 1967) is an American politician. She is the chairwoman of the Clark County Commission.
