Steve Twellman
Steve Twellman (born December 14, 1949) was a U.S. soccer player who spent three seasons in the North American Soccer League. Twellman attended Michigan State University where he played on the Spartans soccer team during its first years playing in the NCAA Division I. He was team captain in 1971, earning second team All American recognition that season. In 1972, the Atlanta Chiefs selected Twellman in the first round of the North American Soccer League college draft. He spent two seasons in Atlanta. In 1973, the team was renamed the Atlanta Apollos when ownership changed. The team folded at the end of the season and Twellman moved to the Boston Minutemen The Boston Minutemen were an American professional soccer team based out of Boston that played in the North American Soccer League (NASL). Atlanta Apollos
The Atlanta Chiefs were an American professional soccer team based in Atlanta, Georgia. The team competed in the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) in 1967 and the North American Soccer League (NASL) from 1968 to 1973 and again from 1979 to 1981. For the 1973 season, the team played as the Atlanta Apollos. Founded in 1967 as a charter member of the NPSL, the club was the brainchild of Dick Cecil, then Vice President of the Atlanta Braves baseball franchise who was the Chiefs' owners. Cecil was intrigued with the 1966 FIFA World Cup in England and decided that a professional soccer team would add valuable events for Atlanta Stadium.
