Steve Thonn
Steve Thonn (pronounced TUN) is an American football coach. He was previously was a head coach in the Arena Football League (AFL) for the Houston Thunderbears, Grand Rapids Rampage and Cleveland Gladiators. Thonn is also a former AFL player. He played WR/ DB for the Chicago Bruisers (1988) and the Albany Firebirds (1990–1993). He was the offensive coordinator of the Georgia Force from 2004 to 2007 before being hired as the Rampage head coach. College years Thonn attended Wheaton College and was a student and a letterman in football, basketball, and baseball. In football, he was named as a Division III All-America selection as a senior. Playing career Chicago Bruisers Thonn played with the Chicago Bruisers of the Arena Football League in 1988, after going undrafted. Indiana Firebirds
The Indiana Firebirds were a team in the Arena Football League. The team was based in Indianapolis, Indiana. Home games were played at the Conseco Fieldhouse, also the home of the Indiana Pacers of the National Basketball Association and Indiana Fever of the Women's National Basketball Association. History Albany Firebirds (1990–2000) The team was founded in Albany, New York as the Albany Firebirds, and played in Albany from 1990 to 2000. At that time, home games were played at the Knickerbocker Arena (now known as the MVP Arena). 2012 Cleveland Gladiators Season
The Cleveland Gladiators season was the 13th season for the franchise in the Arena Football League, and the fourth while in Cleveland. The team was coached by Steve Thonn and played their home games at Quicken Loans Arena. The Gladiators finished the season with an 8–10 record and did not qualify for the playoffs. In this season, the Gladiators became the first team in the history of the league to forfeit a game. They did so on June 8 when the players went on strike prior to a matchup against the Pittsburgh Power in week 14. The Cleveland Gladiators season was the twelfth season for the franchise in the Arena Football League and the third while in Cleveland. The team was coached by Steve Thonn and played their home games at Quicken Loans Arena. The Gladiators finished the regular season 10–8, and qualified for the playoffs as the 2nd seed in the American Conference. They lost to the Georgia Force in the conference semifinals, 41–50. The Cleveland Gladiators season was the 11th season for the franchise in the Arena Football League, and the second while in Cleveland. The team was coached by Steve Thonn and played their home games at Quicken Loans Arena. The Gladiators missed out on the playoffs by finishing 5th in the National Conference with a 7–9 record. San Jose SaberCats
The San Jose SaberCats were a professional arena football team based in San Jose, California. The SaberCats had been members of the Arena Football League (AFL) since 1995 (the year in which the team was founded); and until 2015, they belonged to the AFL's National Conference. Over nineteen seasons of play, the SaberCats emerged as one of the Arena Football League's most successful franchises; at the conclusion of the 2015 season, the SaberCats boasted a lifetime regular season record of 198–98. Moreover, the SaberCats had won a total of four AFL Championships (2002, 2004, 2007, and 2015). Their lifetime postseason record stood at 19–12. 2008 Grand Rapids Rampage Season
The 2008 Grand Rapids Rampage season was the 11th season for the franchise. The Rampage finished the regular season 6–10, earning them a spot in the playoffs as the 6th seed in the American Conference. In their Wild Card playoff game, the Rampage upset the Arizona Rattlers, 48–41. In the Divisional round, the Rampage won in a bigger upset against the top seeded Chicago Rush, 58–41. The Rampage's playoff run was cut short however, after losing the American Conference Championship to defending champion San Jose SaberCats, 55–81. With the ballclub's folding in 2010, this was the franchise's final season. Arizona Rattlers
The Arizona Rattlers are a professional indoor American football team based in Phoenix, Arizona. They are currently members of the Indoor Football League (IFL). The Rattlers were founded in 1992 as an expansion team in the Arena Football League and were the third oldest active franchise in the AFL until their departure in 2016. They play their home games at Footprint Center in downtown Phoenix, but have occasionally played at Gila River Arena (now Desert Diamond Arena) in neighboring Glendale when their primary home has been unavailable. The Rattlers are led by head coach Kevin Guy.
