Steve Sullivan (boxer)
Steve "Kid" Sullivan (May 21, 1897 – September 6, 1979) was an American boxer who took the World Jr. Lightweight Title against Johnny Dundee on June 20, 1924, at the Henderson Bowl in Brooklyn, New York, in a ten round points decision. Andy Neiderreiter, Joe Sarno, and Paddy Roche served as his managers during his career. Early career Sullivan was born on May 21, 1897 in Brooklyn, New York and resided there most of his life. He fought almost exclusively in the Brooklyn area from 1911-1914, though some of his earliest fights are not well documented by BoxRec. One source placed his earliest bouts around 1907-8. Taking some time to gain prominence, he won a ten round newspaper decision against well rated Jewish New York boxer Frankie Callahan at the Broadway arena in Brooklyn on January 22, 1916. Orthodox Stance
In combat sports such as boxing, an orthodox stance is one in which the boxer places their left foot farther in front of the right foot, thus having their weaker side closer to the opponent. Because it favors the stronger, dominant side (often the right side; see laterality), the orthodox stance is the most common stance in boxing and MMA. It is mostly used by right-handed boxers. Mike Ballerino (April 10, 1901 – April 4, 1965) was an American World Jr. Lightweight boxing champion who began his career in the Philippines boxing with the U. S. Army. Ballerino took the World Jr. Lightweight Championship against Steve "Kid" Sullivan on April 1, 1925, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in a ten-round unanimous decision. The Jr. Lightweight class is now referred to as Super featherweight. Early career in Manila, Philippines with the U.S. Army Ballerino was born to an Italian family in Asbury Park, New Jersey, on April 10, 1901. Albert Morgan Pilkington (December 25, 1902 – August 3, 1953), better known as Tod Morgan, was an American Boxing, boxer who took the World Jr. Lightweight Championship in 1925 in Los Angeles and held it for an impressive four years.
