Steve Poltz
Steve Poltz (born February 19, 1960) is a Canadian-American singer-songwriter and guitarist. He is a founding member of the indie-rock band The Rugburns and collaborated on several songs with singer Jewel, including the 1996 single " You Were Meant for Me", which reached number 2 in the US. As a solo artist, he often performs acoustic-only "good old-fashioned sing-along" shows. Early life Poltz was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and later immigrated with his family to Pasadena, California; he then moved to Palm Springs, California. He attended the University of San Diego, where he received a degree in political science, he met guitarist Robert Driscoll and The Rugburns were formed. Career Poltz and his bandmates developed a local and national cult following by playing coffeehouses and bars. ''Café Continental'' is a British television variety show on the BBC Television Service from 1947 to 1953. Broadcast live from the BBC's studios at Alexandra Palace, the programme opened with a "Maître d'hôtel" known as Pere Auguste, who welcomed the television audience to the "cafe" set and told them that "your table has been reserved, as always." Overview Devised and produced by Henry Caldwell, ''Café Continental'' was broadcast on Saturday evenings at 8pm. Lasting for forty-five minutes, the episodes attracted many famous singers and dancers of the day: Josephine Baker appeared in an edition broadcast on 26 June 1948 and the Italian vocal group Quartetto Cetra appeared the same year. WNCI (97.9 FM) (branded 97.9 WNCI) is a commercial contemporary hit radio station licensed to Columbus, Ohio, serving the Columbus metro area. ''One Left Shoe'' is the solo debut album by the American musician Steve Poltz, released in 1998. The first single was "Silver Lining". Poltz, at the time, expected to record again with the Rugburns, and considered ''One Left Shoe'' to be a "sensitive" folk excursion. Poltz promoted the album by playing shows with, among others, Richard X. Heyman and Lisa Loeb. He also took part in the "Frasier Fair" tour (so named by Rufus Wainwright), with John Doe, Pete Droge, and Glen Phillips. Production Recorded in 15 days, the album was produced by J. Steven Soles. Four of its songs were cowritten by Jewel, who also provided backing vocals. Jim Keltner, Leland Sklar, Benmont Tench, and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones' horn section were among the musicians who played on ''One Left Shoe''.
