Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo (; born 13 June 1963) is a Congolese politician who has been the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo since 24 January 2019. He is the leader of the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS), the DRC's oldest and largest party, succeeding his late father Étienne Tshisekedi in that role, a three-time Prime Minister of Zaire and opposition leader during the reign of Mobutu Sese Seko. Tshisekedi was the UDPS party's candidate for president in the December 2018 general election, which he was awarded, despite accusations of irregularities from several election monitoring organisations and other opposition parties. Kasaï-Occidental (French language, French for "Western Kasai"; lua, Kasai Wa Mubuelu) was one of the eleven provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo between 1966 and 2015, when it was split into the Kasaï-Central and the Kasai Province, Kasaï provinces. History The province of Kasaï-Occidental was established in 1966 by regrouping the provinces of Luluabourg and Unité Kasaïenne which in turn were created 1962 when the historical Kasaï (former province), Kasaï Province was divided in five provinces namely Lomami, Sankuru, Sud-Kasai, Luluabourg, Unité-Kasaïenne. 2021 Congo River Disaster
On 15 February 2021, a ship sank in the Congo River in Mai-Ndombe Province, Mai-Ndombe province, near Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo killing at least 60 people. Events An overloaded whaling boat sank at around 20:00 local time near the village of Longola Ekoti in the province of Mai-Ndombe Province, Mai-Ndombe. The boat was travelling 700 km along the Congo River, from Kinshasa to Mbandaka, Mbandaka City, and had over 700 people were onboard. Only 300 people survived, while 60 were killed and the remaining passengers were unaccounted for.
