Steve Dunn (1880s First Baseman)
Stephen B. Dunn (December 21, 1858 – May 5, 1933) was a Major League Baseball first baseman in the 19th century. He played for the St. Paul Saints of the Union Association, a replacement team which began major league play near the end of the 1884 season. In 9 games as the Saints' starting first baseman Dunn batted .250 (8-for-32) with two runs scored. He fielded well at first base (.972) and also played part of one game at third base. First Baseman
A first baseman, abbreviated 1B, is the player on a baseball or softball team who fields the area nearest first base, the first of four bases a baserunner must touch in succession to score a run. The first baseman is responsible for the majority of plays made at that base. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the first baseman is assigned the number 3. Also called first sacker or cornerman, the first baseman is ideally a tall player who throws left-handed and possesses good flexibility and quick reflexes.
