Steve Drowne
Steve Drowne, (born 10 December 1971),''Racing Post, London, 10 December 2021, page 18. is a former professional flat racing jockey. Growing up, he attended Newmarket Racing School. His father was a Devon farmer. Drowne is one of racing's most respected senior riders. He had a long association with trainer Roger Charlton. Steve retired at the end of 2017 and became a stipendiary steward. Jockey
A jockey is someone who rides horses in horse racing or steeplechase racing, primarily as a profession. The word also applies to camel riders in camel racing. The word "jockey" originated from England and was used to describe the individual who rode horses in racing. They must be light, typically around a weight of 100-120 lb., and physically fit. They are typically self-employed and are paid a small fee from the horse trainer and a percentage of the horse's winnings. Jockeys are mainly male, though there are some well-known female jockeys too. The job has a very high risk of debilitating or life-threatening injuries. Roger Charlton
Roger J. Charlton (born 18 January 1950) is an English racehorse trainer and a former flat racing jockey. He trains horses in Beckhampton Stables, near Marlborough in Wiltshire, England. He made an immediate impact as a trainer in England and Europe, including victories in both The Derby and the Prix du Jockey Club in 1990. There has been continued success with the likes of Three Valleys, Tante Rose, Harmonic Way, Trade Fair, Tamarisk, Bated Breath, Avonbridge, Striking Ambition and then Al Kazeem had a series of major victories in 2013. After retiring him to stud, Time Test appeared on the scene in 2015. Roger is currently assisted by his son Harry. Previous assistants include Lambourn-based trainers Ed Walker and Daniel Kubler. The Cheveley Park Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race in Great Britain open to two-year-old fillies. It is run on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket over a distance of 6 furlongs (1,207 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in late September. History The event is named after Cheveley Park, an estate purchased by Harry McCalmont in 1892. It was established in 1899, and the inaugural running was won by Lutetia. The race is currently held on the final day of Newmarket's three-day Cambridgeshire Meeting, the same day as the Cambridgeshire Handicap. It is run on the July Course at Newmarket over a distance of 6 furlongs (1,207 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in July. The Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp is a Group 1 flat horse race in France open to thoroughbreds aged two years or older. It is run at Longchamp over a distance of 1,000 metres (about 5 furlongs), and it is scheduled to take place each year in early October. History The event is named after the Abbaye de Longchamp, an abbey founded in the 13th century by Isabelle, the sister of Saint Louis. The abbey was located on what became the northern edge of the racecourse. It was destroyed during the French Revolution, and its site is now partly occupied by the Château de Longchamp.
