Steve Collins (baseball)
Stephen C. Collins was an American minor league baseball player-manager. Infielder Collins spent eleven seasons in the minor leagues including a three-year stint as the player-manager for the Kinston Eagles of the Coastal Plain League (1947–1949). At the time, the Eagles were an affiliate of the Atlanta Crackers The Atlanta Crackers were Minor League Baseball teams based in Atlanta, Georgia, between 1901 and 1965. The Crackers were Atlanta's home team until the Atlanta Braves moved from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1966. History Atlanta played its first .... Collins' squads were able to capture the Coastal Plain League crown in 1947 and made it to the championship series in the other two years. Contributing greatly to these teams was Collins himself who hit .353 with 91 RBI in 1947 and .311 with 90 RBI in 1948. Shortstop
Shortstop, abbreviated SS, is the baseball or softball fielding position between second and third base, which is considered to be among the most demanding defensive positions. Historically the position was assigned to defensive specialists who were typically poor at batting and were often placed at the bottom of the batting order. Today, shortstops are often able to hit well and many are placed at the top of the lineup. In the numbering system used by scorers to record defensive plays, the shortstop is assigned the number 6. More hit balls go to the shortstop than to any other position, as there are more right-handed hitters in baseball than left-handed hitters, and most hitters have a tendency to pull the ball slightly.
