Steve Bicknell (musician)
Stephen John Bicknell (born 28 November 1959) is an English former professional footballer who played in the Football League for Leicester City and Torquay United. Bicknell was born in Stockton, Warwickshire and began his career as an apprentice winger with Leicester City, turning professional in December 1976. After a bright start to his Leicester career he failed to make the league side the following season, and in August 1978 joined Torquay United Torquay United Football Club is a professional football club based in Torquay, Devon, England. Stockton is a village and civil parish, in the Stratford-on-Avon district of Warwickshire, England. In the 2001 Census it had a population of 1,391, falling to 1,347 at the 2011 Census. The village is located just to the east of the A426 road two miles north-east of Southam, and eight miles south-west of Rugby. Stockton's name was first recorded in 1272, the name meaning 'a fenced enclosure'. During the 19th century, it developed as an industrial village. In association football, a substitute is a player who is brought on to the pitch during a match in exchange for an existing player. Substitutions are generally made to replace a player who has become tired or injured, or who is performing poorly, or for tactical reasons (such as bringing a striker on in place of a defender). A player who has been substituted during a match takes no further part in the game, in games played under the standard International Football Association Board Laws of the Game. Substitutions were officially added to the Laws of the Game in 1958. Prior to this most games were played with no changes permitted at all, with occasional exceptions in cases of extreme injury or players not arriving to matches on time.
