Steven Robert "Steve" Barker (born 23 December 1967) is a South African former football (soccer) player and coach currently managing South African Premier Division club Stellenbosch F.C. Personal life Born in Maseru, Lesotho, he is the nephew of South African coach Clive Barker. Playing career Barker played club football for Wits University and SuperSport United. Coaching career He led the University of Pretoria to promotion to the Premier Soccer League in May 2012. Maseru
Maseru is the capital and largest city of Lesotho. It is also the capital of the Maseru District. Located on the Caledon River, Maseru lies directly on the Lesotho–South Africa border. Maseru had a population of 330,760 in the 2016 census. The city was established as a police camp and assigned as the capital after the country became a British protectorate in 1869. When the country achieved independence in 1966, Maseru retained its status as capital. The name of the city is a Sesotho word meaning "red sandstones". Clive Barker (soccer)
Clive William Barker (born 23 June 1944) is a South African former football coach. He guided the South African national team to their only African Nations Cup title in 1996. He is uncle of Steve Barker. Career Player Barker was born in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. He became a professional footballer in the 1960s, playing for Durban City and Durban United having made his debut at the age of 17. He had a trial with Leicester City, but a serious knee injury quickly ended his career. Manager "The Dog", as he is nicknamed, became a manager in the 1970s, coaching numerous clubs in South Africa, including Durban City, Manning Rangers, AmaZulu (Zulu Royals) and Santos Cape Town.
