Steve Adams (politician)
Stephen Douglas Adams (born May 27, 1951) is a former state treasurer of Tennessee, who served in that position for sixteen years, from 1987 to 2003. Early life and education Adams was born in Cornersville in Marshall County, Tennessee. He attended Austin Peay State University. Career Adams joined the Tennessee Department of Conservation in 1973 and left for the Treasury Department in 1975. Adams was elected Tennessee State Treasurer by the state's General Assembly in 1987, following the appointment of Harlan Mathews to Governor Ned McWherter's cabinet. He continued to be reelected another eight times. He was President of the National Association of State Treasurers from 1997 to 1998. Ned McWherter
Ned Ray McWherter (October 15, 1930April 4, 2011) was an American businessman and politician who served as the 46th Governor of Tennessee, from 1987 to 1995. The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) is a Cabinet-level agency within the government of the U.S. state of Tennessee, headed by the Tennessee Commissioner of Environment and Conservation. The Department of Conservation was first created in 1937 by the State Government Reorganization Act of 1937. All areas used for state parks, monuments, and recreation were brought under a Division of Parks within the department later that year. For a short while in the late 1950s and early 1960s the department existed as the Department of Conservation and Commerce, but it was soon split, with the Department of Conservation regaining its name. The Tennessee Lottery is run by the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation (TELC), which was created on June 11, 2003, by the Tennessee General Assembly. TELC derives its legal authority from the ''Tennessee Education Lottery Implementation Law'', which the General Assembly passed in accordance with a November 2002 amendment to the state constitution establishing the lottery and approved by 58 percent of the voters. Marshall County is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 34,318. Its county seat is Lewisburg.
