Stephen Stenning
Stephen Stenning (aka Stephen Bailey) joined the British Council in 2011 as Director Arts Middle East North Africa. He is currently British Council's Director Culture and Development in which role he set up and oversees the UK Cultural Protection Fund. Prior to joining the British Council he was Director of Edinburgh Mela and on the Board of Festival's Edinburgh. He used to be Senior Producer at UZ Ltd. delivering festivals such as Big in Falkirk (Scotland's National Street Arts Festival), "The Merchant City Festival" and working directly with artists and companies. Stenning was Chief Executive of Aberdeen International Youth Festival from 2003 to 2007. He used to be Associate Director (Community) of Dundee Rep Theatre. Edinburgh Mela
The Edinburgh Mela is an annual multi-cultural festival held in Edinburgh, Scotland, and is one of the 12 festivals that make up the Edinburgh Festival. The first '' mela'', a Sanskrit word meaning "gathering" or "to meet", was held in 1995 at Meadowbank Stadium, and was organised by members of the city's minority ethnic communities. The festival moved to Pilrig Park in 2000, and to Leith Links in 2010. Running over three days in September, the event attracts around 20 to 25,000 people each year. Big In Falkirk
Big in Falkirk was a festival of the arts held in Falkirk, Scotland, from 2000 to 2009. Since its inception in 2000, the award-winning (Scottish Thistle Award Events & Festivals 2005) free weekend event was one of the largest cultural events in Scotland, attracting over 100,000 people. Located in Falkirk’s historical Callendar Park with Callendar House as the focal point, the entertainment included a wide variety of outdoor theatre, pyrotechnic displays, art, comedy and big name music acts alongside activities for all ages. Aberdeen International Youth Festival
Aberdeen International Youth Festival was a festival of performing arts and one of Scotland's major international cultural events, which ran from 1981 to 2017. Each year the festival brought over 1000 young people in performing arts companies and music groups from across the globe. It provided a showcase for their talents, bringing them together with professionals and artists. As well as the ticketed events the Festival staged a parade, open-air performances and a fringe programme in community venues. A programme attracted over 30,000 people to more than seventy events throughout north east Scotland each year. Dundee Repertory Theatre, better known simply as the Dundee Rep, is a theatre and arts company in the city of Dundee, Scotland. National Theatre Of Scotland
The National Theatre of Scotland, established in 2006, is the national theatre company of Scotland. The company has no theatre building of its own; instead it tours work to theatres, village halls, schools and site-specific locations, both at home and internationally. Alison Peebles
Alison Peebles (born 1953) is a Scottish actress, director, and writer in theatre, film, and television. She is a co-founder of Communicado, a Scottish theatre company. Early life Peebles trained as a Painter at Edinburgh College of Art. Career In 1983, she he co-founded Communicado, a Scottish theatre company, with Gerry Mulgrew and Rob Pickavance. Peebles portrayed Lady Macbeth in Michael Boyd's celebrated 1993 production of ''Macbeth'' at The Tron Theatre in Glasgow, Scotland. She directed the film ''AfterLife'', which won the Standard Life Audience Award at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2003. Michael Marra
Michael Marra (17 February 1952 – 23 October 2012) was a Scottish singer-songwriter and musician from Dundee, Scotland. Known as the Bard of Dundee, Marra was a solo performer who toured the UK and performed in arts centres, theatres, folk clubs and village halls. While mainly known as a songwriter, he also worked extensively in theatre, radio and television. His songwriting was rooted in Scottish life and he found an audience within and beyond the folk music scene, which led to him working as a support musician for performers including Van Morrison, The Proclaimers, Barbara Dickson and Deacon Blue. His song "Hermless" was somewhat humorously suggested as a potential Scottish national anthem. Origins Marra was brought up in the Lochee district of Dundee, the son of a printer and a schoolteacher. Scottish Arts Council
The Scottish Arts Council ( gd, Comhairle Ealain na h-Alba, sco, Scots Airts Cooncil) was a Scottish public body responsible for the funding, development and promotion of the arts in Scotland. The Council primarily distributed funding from the Scottish Government as well as National Lottery funds received via the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. The Scottish Arts Council was formed in 1994 following a restructuring of the Arts Council of Great Britain, but had existed as an autonomous body since a royal charter of 1967. Bill Kenwright
William Kenwright, CBE (born 4 September 1945) is an English West End theatre producer and film producer. He has also been the chairman of Everton Football Club since 2004. Kenwright was born in Liverpool and attended Booker Avenue County Primary School, and then Liverpool Institute High School from 1957 to 1964. He appeared in school productions (including Shylock in ''The Merchant of Venice'') on the stage in the Mount Street building (predecessor to LIPA). He was also treasurer of the Christian Union at school. Kenwright was a judge in the 2007 BBC1 television series '' Any Dream Will Do''.
