Stephen Roberts (darts Player)
Stephen C. "Stevo" Roberts (born 26 April 1957 from Wisbech, Cambridgeshire) is an English professional darts player, who played in British Darts Organisation events. Career Roberts wins of the 2005 Latvia Open Champions, he defeating Peter Manley of England. Roberts is a Wisbech Super League player and makes his living as a tarmac layer. He qualified for the 2006 BDO World Darts Championship, winning one of six places available in the International Playoffs. He caused a major surprise in the first round by beating 2001 champion John Walton 3–0 in the first round before losing 4–3 in the second round to Mike Veitch. Roberts Quit the BDO in 2010. Wisbech
Wisbech ( ) is a market town, inland Port of Wisbech, port and civil parish in the Fenland District, Fenland district in Cambridgeshire, England. In 2011 it had a population of 31,573. The town lies in the far north-east of Cambridgeshire, bordering Norfolk and only 5 miles (8 km) south of Lincolnshire. The tidal River Nene running through the town is spanned by two road bridges. Peter Manley
Peter David Manley (born 7 March 1962) is an English former professional darts player who played in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events from July 1996 until 2017. He won one major title, the Las Vegas Desert Classic, in 2003, and twice held the number one ranking. He also reached the World Championship final in 1999, 2002 and 2006, losing to Phil Taylor on each occasion. Declining form led to him losing his place on the PDC tour in 2011. Manley was nicknamed "One Dart" by commentator Tony Green after hitting the winning double on numerous occasions with his first dart during his first televised appearance at the 1995 Unipart European Masters, where he eventually lost in the final to Mike Gregory. Mike Veitch
Michael Veitch (born 15 August 1960) is a Scottish former professional darts player. Career He made his televised debut at the 1990 Embassy World Championship losing in the first round to Brian Cairns, but it would be another 12 years before he returned to the Lakeside Country Club to play at the tournament again. He has won several non-televised Open events including the Scottish Open in 2004, the Welsh Classic in 2005 and the England Open in 2006 – but has failed to make an impression in the World Championship. His best run at Lakeside came in 2006 when he beat Ulf Ceder and Stephen Roberts before losing to Martin Adams in the quarter-finals. In 2016, Veitch played mostly on the PDC Challenge Tour Circuit. John Walton (darts Player)
John Michael Walton (born 10 November 1961) is an English professional darts player currently playing in World Darts Federation (WDF) events. He is best known for winning the 2001 BDO World Darts Championship. He adopted the nickname John Boy and used the song "Cotton Eye Joe" by Rednex as his walk-on theme. BDO career 1993–2000: Early career Walton picked up some small tournament victories in the early stages of his career, including the Websters 150 Championship in 1993 and the Highlands Open Championship in 1996 but didn't manage to qualify for the World Championship until 1999 when he lost 0–3 to Roland Scholten on his first round debut. 2006 BDO World Darts Championship
The 2006 Lakeside World Professional Darts Championship was held from 7 to 15 January 2006 at the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green, Surrey. Defending champion Raymond van Barneveld was aiming to win a fifth BDO world title, equalling the record set by Eric Bristow. However, he was beaten 7–5 in the final by Dutch qualifier Jelle Klaasen; the final was the first and only World Darts Championship final to not feature a British player. Klaasen became the youngest World Champion at age 21 and became the first qualifier to win the World Championship since Keith Deller in 1983, who became the youngest World Champion himself, aged 23. British Darts Organisation
The British Darts Organisation (BDO) was a darts organisation founded on 7 January 1973 by Olly Croft. Made up of 66 member counties, it oversaw professional, semi-professional and amateur darts competitions in Britain. The BDO was a founder member of the World Darts Federation in 1976. It also staged a BDO World Darts Championship, World Professional Darts Championship from 1978 to 2020. In the early 1990s, a dispute between Olly Croft and the top darts players over the decline in TV coverage and sponsorship led to an acrimonious Split in darts, split in the game, with the players breaking away to form their own governing body which became the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC).
