Stephen Keppler
Stephen Derek Keppler (born February 18, 1961) is an English-American professional golfer. Keppler was born in London, England. He played college golf at Florida State University from 1980 to 1983, where he was a third-team All-American. Following his senior season, Keppler for Great Britain and Ireland in the 1983 Walker Cup. He played on the European Tour in 1984 with little success, making only three cuts in 13 events. He later became a club professional at several clubs in Georgia. A four-time winner of the Georgia PGA Championship and two-time winner of the Georgia Open, Keppler had his PGA Tour highlight when he led the 1995 BellSouth Classic after three rounds, only to finish third. As a senior, Keppler has qualified twice for the U.S. Senior Open. In 2014, Keppler was inducted into the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame. St Andrews Trophy
The St Andrews Trophy is a biennial men's team golf tournament contested between teams of amateur golfers representing Great Britain & Ireland and the Continent of Europe. It takes its name from St Andrews in Scotland. It was first played in 1956 and takes place in even-numbered years; Great Britain & Ireland plays in the United States in the Walker Cup in odd-numbered years. It is staged alternately in Great Britain & Ireland and on the Continent, and is organised by The R&A (an offshoot of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews) and the European Golf Association. 1983 European Amateur Team Championship
The 1983 European Amateur Team Championship took place 22–26 June at Golf de Chantilly, in Chantilly, France. It was the 13th men's golf European Amateur Team Championship. Venue The hosting club was founded in 1909. The Vineuil Course, situated in Chantilly, in the forest of the Hauts-de-France region of Northern France, 50 kilometres (30 miles) north of the center of Paris, close to the Château de Chantilly and Chantilly Racecourse, was originally designed by John Henry Taylor and later redesigned by Tom Simpson and Donald Steel. It had previously hosted eight editions of the Open de France. For the 1983 European Amateur Team Championship, the course was set up with par 71 over 7,108 yards. The European Amateur Team Championship is a European amateur team golf championship for men organised by the European Golf Association which was introduced in 1959. The championship was played in odd-numbered years from 1959 to 2007 and has been played annually since 2008 (with the exception of 2012). Walker Cup
The Walker Cup is a golf trophy contested in odd-numbered years by leading male amateur golfers in two teams: United States, and Great Britain and Ireland. The official name is the Walker Cup Match (not "Matches" as in Ryder Cup Matches). It is organised by The R&A and the United States Golf Association (USGA). In 1921 the Royal Liverpool Golf Club hosted an unofficial contest which was followed by official annual contests from 1922 through 1924. From 1925 they became biennial, held on even-number years. After World War II they switched to odd-numbered years. They are held alternately in the U.S., and Ireland or Britain. The cup is named after George Herbert Walker who was president of the USGA in 1920 when the match was initiated. Walker is the grandfather and namesake of George H. W. The Jacques Léglise Trophy is an annual amateur boys' team golf competition between Great Britain & Ireland and the Continent of Europe. It was first played in 1977, as a one-day match before the Boys Amateur Championship, but since 1996 it has been played as a separate two-day match. The venue generally alternates between Great Britain and Ireland and the continent. From 1958 to 1966 a similar match was played between a combined England and Scotland team and the Continent of Europe. History The event can trace its origins back to 1958.
