Stephen Hughes (politician)
Stephen Skipsey Hughes (born 19 August 1952, in Sunderland, County Durham) is a British Labour Party politician who served as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 1984 to 2014. Hughes attended St Bede's School in Lanchester, County Durham, and then Newcastle Polytechnic. He became a local government officer. Representing the Durham constituency between 1984 and 1999, Hughes was elected to its successor constituency, North East England in 1999 and re-elected in 2004 and 2009. He stood down at the 2014 election. In 1994 he appeared in the ''Guinness Book of World Records'' for the biggest majority in an English election. Stephen John Hughes (born 18 September 1976) is an English former professional footballer and pundit. He played as a midfielder notably in the Premier League for Arsenal, Everton and Charlton Athletic, and in the Football League for Fulham, Watford, Coventry City and Walsall. He was capped at both England U18 and U21 levels. Club career Hughes started his career at Arsenal, with whom he won the FA Youth Cup in 1994. He then made 16 first team appearances to earn a winners medal as Arsenal won the 1998 Premier League title. Hughes' highlight for that season was scoring twice as Arsenal defeated Chelsea 2–0 at Highbury. He also made 6 appearances in Arsenal's FA Cup run that season, including the semi-final against Wolves, but was left out of the squad for the 1998 FA Cup Final as they clinched the double. Stephen David Hughes (born 14 November 1982) is a Scottish former professional footballer. Hughes played as a midfielder for Rangers, Leicester City, Motherwell, Norwich City, Milton Keynes Dons, Aberdeen, Dundee and East Fife. Hughes made one appearance for Scotland, playing in the last 20 minutes of a friendly match against Japan in 2009. Club career Rangers Hughes started his career with Scottish Premier League club Rangers at the age of 16. He went on to make 90 appearances for the Ibrox club and scored seven goals in the process. Steve Hughes is an Australian-born thrash metal drummer, comedian and actor. Hughes has embraced the title "heavy metal humourist", as it aligns with his approach to comedy, music and life; the press have referred to this title and similar variations. Hughes was an active member of Australia's early thrash metal scene. He founded and played drums for Slaughter Lord, one of the first thrash metal bands in Australia—a band that had a brief yet notable impact on the country's extreme metal music history. He subsequently played drums for thrash metal band Mortal Sin (band), Mortal Sin and the black metal band Nazxul. Hughes started performing stand-up in the 1990s and relocated to England in 2002 to further pursue his career in comedy.
