Stephen Howard (cricketer)
Stephen John Howard (born 7 February 1949 in Launceston, Tasmania) is a former Australian cricketer, who played for Tasmania. His career was from 1969 until 1980. His batting style was right-hand bat and his bowling style was right-arm medium. Howard debuted for Tasmania in a limited overs match against Victoria in late November 1969 and scored 39 not out, winning the Man of the Match award. His first-class debut came a month later when Tasmania played a New Zealand XI in Hobart. Stephen Howard's sole first-class century was scored for Tasmania during a match against New South Wales in Hobart during the 1976–77 season. He was an opening batsman for the Tasmanian team which won the Gillette Cup in 1978–79. Howard also played senior football with City-South in the NTFA during the late 1960s. South Launceston Football Club
The South Launceston Football Club is an Australian rules football club currently competing in the Northern Tasmanian Football Association. They were formed through a merger between City-South and East Launceston in 1986, clubs in the former Northern Tasmanian Football Association (which is not related to the current NTFA). South Launceston was in the TFL Statewide League from 1986 to 1997, then the Northern Tasmanian Football League until 2008, then in the Tasmanian Football League until 2013. The club is nicknamed ''The Bulldogs'', a name which was adopted upon the merger. City-South were the Redlegs and East Launceston had been known as the Demons. Derek Parker (cricketer)
Derek Parker (born 1932) is a British writer and broadcaster. He is the author of numerous works on literature, ballet, and opera, and with his wife Julia of several books about astrology. Biography He was born in Looe, Cornwall, and educated at Fowey Grammar School (1941–49). He worked as reporter with '' The Cornishman'' (Penzance) (1949–55) then as drama critic with ''The Western Morning News'' (Plymouth) (1956–58). In 1958 he worked as an interviewer and announcer at TWW Cardiff, and subsequently for forty years as a freelance radio broadcaster, compiling and introducing many programmes both for domestic radio and for the BBC World Service. Nelson Cricket Club
Nelson Cricket Club, based at Seedhill in Nelson, Lancashire, are a cricket club in the Lancashire League. They play at the Seedhill ground in Nelson. Their captain for the 2016 season is Neil Thompson and their professional is Ryan Bailey. Nelson Cricket Club was formed in 1861 when two other local clubs merged. It was a founding member of the Lancashire League in 1892, winning the inaugural championship. The club has gone on to win the league on 21 occasions, the most of any club. Larry Gomes
Hilary Angelo Gomes (born 13 July 1953) is a Trinidad and Tobago and West Indies cricket team, West Indian former cricketer. Cricket career Gomes toured England with the West Indian youth team in 1970 and made his first-class cricket, first-class debut as a left-handed batsman for Trinidad and Tobago against New Zealand cricket team in the West Indies in 1971–72, New Zealand in 1971-72. He played county cricket for Middlesex County Cricket Club, Middlesex between 1973 and 1976. Gomes was a successful batsman for the West Indies, usually playing at number 3. He was part of the West Indies team which beat England 5-0 in West Indian cricket team in England in 1984, 1984, the only time a touring side has won in England by such a margin. Northern Tasmanian Football Association (1886–1986)
The Northern Tasmanian Football Association (NTFA) was an Australian rules football competition which ran from 1886 to 1986. In its time it was one of the three main leagues in Tasmania, with the Tasmanian Football League and North West Football Union representing the rest of the state. It was based in the city of Launceston. The three most successful clubs of the old NTFA, Launceston, North Launceston and City-South, went on to compete in the short-lived TFL Statewide League. From 1947 to 1983 the NTFA was a six team competition, in 1984 George Town and Deloraine joined to make eight teams. In 1987, the NTFA merged with the North West Football Union to form the Northern Tasmanian Football League. Gillette Cup (Australia)
The One-Day Cup, known as the Marsh One-Day Cup for sponsorship reasons, is an Australian domestic List A 50-over limited-overs cricket tournament. It has had many different names, formats and teams since the inaugural 1969-1970 season. Initially a knockout cup, the competition now features a single round-robin followed by a finals series. The tournament is contested between teams representing the six states of Australia, who also compete in the first-class Sheffield Shield.
