Stephen Holmes (CIA)
Stephen Holmes (also known as Steven Hall) is a CIA officer who, as of 2013, was the Station chief at the Embassy of the United States in Moscow, the top U.S. intelligence representative with Russia. Holmes's identity was revealed on May 17, 2013, by the Russian FSB in retaliation for Ryan Fogle's alleged attempts to recruit agents for the US. A station chief is a government official who is the head of a team, post or function usually in a foreign country. Historically it commonly referred to the head of a defensible structure such as an ambassador's residence or colonial outpost. In Germany a (station leader) was the government's chief representative in a colonial possession like South Sea Islands. It may also be used to refer to the manager of remote scientific stations such as those in the Antarctic and Jarvis Island, an uninhabited minor U.S. Pacific island. However, in modern times, this designation is usually used for a senior official of a certain country's Intelligence agency, stationed in a foreign country who manages all espionage operations in that country. The Embassy of the United States of America in Moscow is the diplomatic mission of the United States of America in the Russian Federation. The current embassy compound is in the Presnensky District of Moscow, across the street from the White House and near the Moscow Zoo. The New Office Building (NOB) building was opened on May 5, 2000. On January 16, 2018, the consular department was opened in the new building, and the reception of visitors began. The new address is Donetsk People's Republic Square 1 (''Ploshchad' Donetskoy Narodnoy Respubliki 1''), the name being changed in June 2022 in a simillar manner to the changing the addresses of the Russian Embassy in Prague and in Washington D.C.
