Stephen Hall (politician)
Stephen Emerson Hall (October 8, 1941 – May 9, 2014) was an American police officer, realtor, and politician. A Republican from Guilford, Hall served three terms (1992–1998) in the Maine Senate. Early life Hall was born on October 8, 1941, in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, and graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1960. Career Hall moved to Houlton, Maine, where he ran a First National chain of grocery stores and later worked as a police officer with the Houlton Police Department. Leaving Houlton, Hall joined the Maine Warden Service, where he was first based in Jackman and later in Guilford in Piscataquis County Piscataquis County is a county located in the U.S. state of Maine. Maine Senate
The Maine Senate is the upper house of the Maine Legislature, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Maine. The Senate currently consists of 35 members representing an equal number of districts across the state, though the Maine Constitution allows for "an odd number of Senators, not less than 31 nor more than 35". Unlike the lower House, the Senate does not set aside nonvoting seats for Native tribes. Because it is a part-time position, members of the Maine Senate usually have outside employment as well. Dover-Foxcroft, Maine
Dover-Foxcroft is the largest town in and the seat of Piscataquis County, Maine, United States. The population was 4,422 at the 2020 census. The town is located near the geographic center of the state. History Dover-Foxcroft was originally two towns, Dover and Foxcroft, separated by the Piscataquis River. Dover was to the south of the river, and Foxcroft was to the north. Dover was purchased from Massachusetts by Boston merchants Charles Vaughan and John Merrick, both of whom had emigrated from England. It was first permanently settled in 1803 by Eli Towne from Temple, New Hampshire, then incorporated on January 19, 1822. Agriculture was the principal early occupation, producing potatoes, corn and grain. Originally known as T5 R7 NWP, Foxcroft was one of five towns conveyed by Massachusetts in 1796 to Bowdoin College. Guilford is a town in Piscataquis County, Maine. The town is located on the Piscataquis River and was first settled in 1806. The population was 1,267 at the time of the 2020 census. History In 1803, Rev. Robert Low and Deacon Robert Herring of New Gloucester purchased several thousand acres in the area from Bowdoin College. The town itself was first settled on February 18, 1806. On October 8, 1812, a warrant was issued for the tract to be designated a "plantation," which became effective on November 11, 1806. The town was officially incorporated by the governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts on February 8, 1816. It was named after Moses Guilford Low, the first white child born here. The Maine Republican Party is an affiliate of the United States Republican Party in Maine. It was founded in Strong, Maine, on August 7, 1854. The party currently does not control the governor's office or either chamber of the Maine Legislature, nor either of Maine's two U.S. House seats and only controls one of the state's U.S. Senate seats. Foxcroft Academy
Foxcroft Academy is a private preparatory high school located in Dover-Foxcroft, Piscataquis County, Maine. Chartered by the Maine legislature in 1823, Foxcroft Academy was established just a few years after the incorporation of the town of Foxcroft itself. From modest beginnings in a wood frame building for which the town appropriated $100, the Academy now occupies a 125-acre campus with a full complement of academic, athletic, and residential facilities. Houlton, Maine
Houlton is a town in Aroostook County, Maine, on the Canada–United States border. As of the 2020 census, the town's population was 6,055. It is perhaps best known for being at the northern terminus of Interstate 95 and as the birthplace of Samantha Smith, a goodwill ambassador as a child during the Cold War. The town hosts the annual Houlton Agricultural Fair. Houlton is the county seat of Aroostook County, and as such its nickname is the "Shire Town".
