Stephen Clarke (swimmer)
Stephen Clarke (born July 21, 1973) is a Canadian former competition swimmer and Olympic bronze medallist. Clarke was born in Sutton Coldfield, England, and emigrated to Canada at an early age. Steve Clark (swimmer)
Stephen Edward Clark (born June 17, 1943) is an American former competition swimmer, Olympic champion, and former world record-holder. At the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, Clark swam for the first-place U.S. relay teams in the preliminary heats of the men's 4×200-meter freestyle relay and men's 4×100-meter medley relay. Both American relay teams won gold medals, but Clark was ineligible for a medal under the Olympic swimming rules in effect in 1960 because he did not compete in the event finals. He won his first international gold medal at the 1963 Pan American Games in São Paulo, Brazil, winning the men's 100-metre freestyle in a time of 54.7 seconds, and narrowly edging American swimmer Steven Jackman (54.8 seconds). The 1998 Commonwealth Games ''(Malay: Sukan Komanwel 1998)'', officially known as the XVI Commonwealth Games ''(Malay: Sukan Komanwel ke-16)'', was a multi-sport event held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This edition is marked by several unprecedented facts in the history of the event. The 1998 games were the first held in an Asian country and the last Commonwealth Games of the 20th century. Robert Braknis
Robert Braknis (born January 8, 1973) is a Canadian former competition swimmer, who competed for his native country at the 1996 Summer Olympics. There he finished in 16th position in the 100-metre backstroke and in twelfth place with the men's relay team in the 4x100-medley relay. Braknis set the Canadian and Commonwealth record in the 50-metre backstroke in 1994. Braknis is a graduate of Florida State University where he was a 7-time All-American and the Atlantic Coast Conference Swimmer of the Year in 1995. Chris Renaud (swimmer)
Christopher Renaud (born 29 August 1976) is a former backstroke swimmer from Canada, who competed in two consecutive Summer Olympics for his native country, starting in 1996. His highlights include setting a world record in the short course 50-metre backstroke in 1997, and won several Canadian titles. He is an alumnus of Bishop Carroll High School. Renaud was the first Canadian to break the two-minute barrier in the 200-metre backstroke, clocking 1:59.81 at the national championships in 1996, held just after the 1996 Olympics. Marcel Gery (in Czech and Slovak Marcel Géry; born March 15, 1965) is a former butterfly swimmer, who was born in Czechoslovakia and competed for the Czechoslovak national team in international competitions. Mark Roger Tewksbury, (born February 7, 1968) is a Canadian former competitive swimmer. He is best known for winning the gold medal in the 100-metre backstroke at the 1992 Summer Olympics. He also hosted the first season of ''How It's Made'', a Canadian documentary series, in 2001. Tewksbury was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (Civil Division) in 1993 for being a "motivational speaker and a gifted athlete." Swimming is an individual or team racing sport that requires the use of one's entire body to move through water. The sport takes place in pools or open water (e.g., in a sea or lake). Competitive swimming is one of the most popular Olympic sports, with varied distance events in butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, and individual medley. In addition to these individual events, four swimmers can take part in either a freestyle or medley relay. A medley relay consists of four swimmers who will each swim a different stroke, ordered as backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle. Swimming at the 11th Pan American Games was held August 12–18, 1991 in Havana, Cuba. The competition consisted of 32 events (26 individual and 6 relay); and were contested in the long course (50m) pool.
