Stephen Caffrey
Stephen Caffrey (born in Dublin on 9 December 1975), is an Irish former footballer who has retired from League of Ireland First Division club Athlone Town. Career Stephen Caffrey began his career at Bohemians as a central defender in 1994. He spent 2 years there without making the breakthrough to the first team before moving to Glenavon in December 1996. He became a fan favourite at the Lurgan club and established himself in their midfield before returning to Bohemians in August 1999. Caffrey formed a solid partnership with Kevin Hunt in the centre of Bohs' midfield and played a huge part in Bohemians League and Cup double in 2001. He added a second winners medal to his collection as Bohs regained the league title in 2002/2003. When his contract ended at the end of the 2004 season, Caffrey moved to St Patrick's Athletic but he had an injury hit time at the club and Gareth Farrelly brought him back to Bohemians for a third spell until the end of the 2006 season. St Patrick's Athletic Football Club ( ga, Cumann Peile Lúthchleas Phádraig Naofa) is a professional Irish association football club based in Inchicore, Dublin, that plays in the Irish Premier Division. Founded in May 1929, they played originally in Phoenix Park but they moved to their current ground Richmond Park in 1939. St Patrick's Athletic have won many trophies in Irish Club Football, including eight League Titles, the fifth most in Irish Football, as well as four FAI Cups and four League Cups. The Gold Cup is a defunct cup competition which involved competitors from Ireland and from 1921 onwards, just for Northern Ireland. It was initially run by the New Irish Football Association but later, and mainly, by the Irish Football Association. The competition was first played in the 1911–12 season after seven of the eight participating clubs left the IFA (only Linfield remained) after a dispute over money and founded the New IFA. This new organisation introduced the cup as the "New Irish Cup". At the end of the season after many discussions, the dissident clubs returned to the IFA and the tournament was not held in 1912-13. However, it was revived by the IFA in 1913–14 season. In the seasons 1915–16 to 1918–19 season it was played in a league format. The Northern Ireland Football League Cup (BetMcLean League Cup for sponsorship purposes), also known colloquially as the Irish League Cup, is a national football knock-out cup competition in Northern Ireland open to all member clubs of the Northern Ireland Football League.
