Stephanie Watts
Stephanie Courtney Watts (born April 12, 1997) is an American professional basketball player. She played briefly for the Chicago Sky of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). She was drafted by the Los Angeles Sparks in the first round of the 2021 WNBA draft and was traded to Chicago during the 2021 season. High School career Watts is from Wesley Chapel, North Carolina and attended Weddington High School. She was named a McDonald's All-American and was North Carolina's Gatorade Player of the Year. She was a five-star recruit going into college and was ranked the No. 21 player overall in her recruiting class. College career She started her college career at the University of North Carolina before transferring to the University of Southern California as a graduate. Weddington High School
Weddington High School (WHS) is a public high school located east of Weddington, North Carolina (with a Matthews mailing address) as part of Union County Public Schools. As of August 2020, the school has been operating under the leadership of principal Jeff Kraftson. Weddington's important feeder schools, Weddington Elementary and Weddington Middle, are located on the same campus as the high school. Other feeder schools include Antioch Elementary, in Matthews/Indian Trail, and Wesley Chapel Elementary, in Monroe. McDonald's High School All-Americans
The McDonald's All-American Game is the all-star basketball game played each year for American and Canadian boys' and girls' high school basketball graduates. Consisting of the top players, each team plays a single exhibition game after the conclusion of the high-school basketball season, in an East vs. West format. As part of the annual event, boys and girls compete in a slam dunk contest and a three-point shooting competition, and compete alongside All-American Game alumni in a timed team shootout. The last of these competitions replaced separate overall timed skills competitions for boys and girls. It is rare for girls to compete in the slam dunk contest. 2021 Chicago Sky Season
The 2021 Chicago Sky season was the franchise's 16th season in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). This was their third season under head coach James Wade. In the postseason, the Sky won their first WNBA championship. The offseason was marked by two-time WNBA MVP Candace Parker joining the team. The Sky started the season with two wins but followed with a seven-game losing streak through mid-June. However, they proceeded to go on a seven-game winning streak that included back-to-back wins over eventual top seed Connecticut. They entered the mid-season Olympic break with a 10–10 record. After the break, they recorded a 4–3 record in August, including back-to-back road wins in Seattle. In September, they began with a road loss and closed out the season with a four game home-stand that they split 2–2, finishing the season 16–16. The Sky entered the playoffs as the sixth seed. 2006 WNBA Draft
On November 16, 2005, the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) held an expansion draft for the Chicago Sky. It was the first expansion draft since the 2000 season, when the WNBA welcomed the Miami Sol, Portland Fire, Indiana Fever, and Seattle Storm into the league. On April 5, 2006, the WNBA Draft took place at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. The draft was held in conjunction with the 2006 NCAA women's basketball tournament, which had its championship game the night before at the TD Banknorth Garden, now known as TD Garden, in Boston. This marked the first WNBA draft ever held outside New Jersey. The first round of the draft was televised on ESPN2, while the second and third rounds were shown on ESPNU and NBA TV.
