Stephanie Calman
Stephanie Calman is the author of six books, ''Confessions of a Bad Mother'', ''Confessions of a Failed Grown-Up'', ''How (Not) to Murder Your Mother'', ''How (Not) to Murder Your Husband'', ''Dressing for Breakfast'' and ''Gentleman Prefer My Sister''. In addition to being an author she created the Channel 4 sitcom ''Dressing for Breakfast'' and has appeared on TV shows such as '' Have I Got News for You'' and ''The Wright Stuff''. Dressing For Breakfast
''Dressing for Breakfast'' is a Channel 4 sitcom which ran between 1995 and 1998 about two women, Louise (Beatie Edney) and Carla (Holly Aird). The series was based on a 1988 book with the same title by Stephanie Calman who also wrote the series. Storyline The plot mainly concerns 29-year-old jewellery maker/seller Louise and her quest to find the perfect man. Her interfering left wing activist mother Liz (Charlotte Cornwell) gets in the way. In her search for a boyfriend she makes some wrong choices and gets advice from best friend Carla and her husband Dave (Nigel Lindsay). Reception The TV series was generally well received. It gained acclaim for featuring strong female characters and its frank look at female sexuality. It proved popular with audiences and was commissioned for three series broadcast between 1995 and 1998. ''The Wright Stuff'' is a British television chat show which was hosted by former tabloid journalist Matthew Wright from 2000 until 2018. It aired on Channel 5 on weekday mornings from 9:15 to 11:15am. The series characterised itself as "Britain's brightest daytime show", which gave "ordinary people the chance to talk and comment on everything from the invasion of Iraq to social, emotional and even sexual issues back at home", as well as featuring "showbiz stars and media commentators". Mel Calman
Melville Calman (19 May 1931 – 10 February 1994) was a British cartoonist best known for his "little man" cartoons published in British newspapers including the ''Daily Express'' (1957–63), ''The Sunday Telegraph'' (1964–65), ''The Observer'' (1965-6), ''The Sunday Times'' (1969–84) and ''The Times'' (1979–94). Early life Born in Stamford Hill, North London, Mel Calman was the youngest of the three children of Clement Calman, a timber merchant, and his wife, Anna (both Russian-Jewish immigrants who came to England about 1912). Evacuated to Cambridge to avoid the Blitz in World War II, he was educated at the Perse School. Failing to gain entrance to read English at University of Cambridge, he returned to London where he enrolled at the Borough Polytechnic Art School.
