Stenhouse Bay, South Australia
Stenhouse Bay is a place in the Australian state of South Australia near the south-west extremity of the Yorke Peninsula located in the gazetted locality of Inneston about west of the state capital of Adelaide. Naming Stenhouse Bay was named after Andrew Stenhouse who was a principal of the Permasite Manufacturing Co Pty Ltd which held "leases for the harvesting of gypsum north of Cape Spencer.” Since 1999, it has been located within the locality of Inneston. Its official status as of 2013 is that of a 'locality unbounded' which is listed on the South Australian place name gazetteer with the advice that it is "not to be used as an address". History Gypsum works The Waratah Gypsum Company had works here for the quarrying and exporting of rock gypsum. John Stenhouse
John Stenhouse FRS FRSE FIC FCS (21 October 1809 – 31 December 1880) was a Scottish chemist. In 1854, he invented one of the first practical respirators. He was a co-founder of the Chemical Society in 1841. Life John Stenhouse was born in Barrhead in Glasgow on 21 October 1809. He was the eldest son of William Stenhouse, a calico-printer in the family firm of John Stenhouse & Co of 302 High Street, Glasgow, and Elizabeth Currie; he was the only one of their children to survive beyond infancy. After education at the Glasgow Grammar School, he studied at the University of Glasgow from 1824 to 1828. Richard Lynn Stenhouse Jr. (born October 2, 1987) is an American professional stock car racing driver. He competes full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series, driving the No. 47 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for JTG Daugherty Racing. Stenhouse was the 2010 Nationwide Series Rookie of the Year, and won back-to-back Nationwide Series championships in 2011 and 2012. Stenhouse was the 2013 Sprint Cup Series Rookie of the Year. Nicol Drysdale Stenhouse (27 June 1806 – 18 February 1873) was a Scottish-born lawyer, writer and literary patron in colonial Australia. Stenhouse was born in Coldstream, Berwickshire, Scotland and was a writer of taste and a great lover of literature. He was clerk to Sir William Hamilton, 9th Baronet when the latter was practising as an advocate in Edinburgh. He was also a friend of Thomas De Quincey.
