Steling
The Steling is a mountain, on the High Fens plateau.Map service

The Germany, German-Belgium, Belgian border runs 60 meters from the mountaintop. The closest borderpoint near the summit is also the highest point in the Städteregion Aachen, municipal region of Aachen.


Location

The Steling is located on the western edge of the High Fens-Eifel Nature Park. At its southern foot lies Mützenich (Monschau), Mützenich, a quarter of Monschau. On its northern slopes is the source region of the Weser (Ourthe), River Weser, which flows through the Weser Dam near Eupen to Liège and into the Ourthe.


Climate

The High Fens to the south and west benefit from the Steling, because the summit causes moist Atlantic winds to release their rainfall on the mountain.

Mützenich (Monschau)
Mützenich is a village and former municipality in the district of Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is part of the municipality of Monschau since 1972. Notably, Mützenich is a German exclave surrounded by Belgian territory due to the track bed of the former Vennbahn railway line being part of Belgium following the implementation of the Treaty of Versailles, among other small areas. History One possible derivation of the place name ''Mützenich'' is a Roman settlement ''Mutiniacum''. In 1783, peat cutters discovered a Roman helmet and remains of a log road.
