Steinau an der Straße is a town of around 10,000 inhabitants in the Main-Kinzig district, in Hesse, Germany. It is situated on the river Kinzig, southwest of Fulda. The name ''Steinau'' refers to stones in the river; ''an der Straße,'' meaning ''on the road,'' refers to the historic trade route Via Regia from Leipzig to Frankfurt on which it was located. Steinau is best known for the Brothers Grimm who spent part of their childhood here. Steinau in the Land of Hadeln is a municipality in the district of Cuxhaven, in Lower Saxony, Germany. History Steinau belongs to the Land of Hadeln, first an exclave of the younger Duchy of Saxony and after its de facto dynastic partition in 1296 of the Duchy of Saxe-Lauenburg, established de jure in 1260. In 1728 Emperor Charles VI enfeoffed the George II Augustus and his House of Hanover in personal union with the reverted fief of Saxe-Lauenburg. By a redeployment of Hanoverian territories in 1731 the Hanoverian Duchies of Bremen and Verden were conveyed the administration of the neighboured ''Land of Hadeln''. Stonava ( pl, , german: Steinau) is a municipality and village in Karviná District in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 1,800 inhabitants. The municipality has a significant Polish minority. Etymology The name is of topographic origin, derived from the older name of the Stonávka River, which itself denoted ''a murmuring river''. As ''Stonawa'' it was then mentioned in 1432, a German name ''Steinau'' appeared in the 18th century. Geography Stonava lies about south of Karviná and east of Ostrava. Große Steinau
The Große Steinau is a river of Lower Saxony, Germany. It is a tributary of the Sieber, north of Herzberg am Harz in the district of Göttingen. It rises at about 690 metres near the crags of the Sophienklippe on the Acker. It initially flows in a southwesterly direction, but later swings south before discharging into the Sieber near the small settlement of ''Aschenhütte'', not far from the mouth of the Kleine Steinau. In times of drought the water of the Große Steinau seeps completely into the karst ground before its mouth and reappears about 4 days later at the Rhume Spring. An abandoned village, Steynowe, was probably located in the lower valley of the Große Steinau, but its exact location has not been found. Kleine Steinau
Kleine Steinau is a river of Lower Saxony, Germany. It is a tributary of the Sieber (river), Sieber, north of Herzberg am Harz in the Göttingen (district), district of Göttingen. The Kleine Steina rises at about between the ''Schindelkopf'' mountain and the Spießerklippe crags on the ridge of Auf dem Acker. It initially flows in a westerly direction, but later swings south before emptying into the River Sieber near the small settlement of ''Aschenhütte'', not far from the mouth of the Große Steinau. In the upper reaches of the Kleine Steinau it is also called the ''Schindelgraben'', although it is not clear from the maps at which point the name changes.
