Stefan Svensson (speedway Rider)
Stefan Svensson (born 17 February 1962) is a former professional tennis player from Sweden. Biography Svensson was born in Gothenburg but based in Kungälv. A leading junior in Sweden, he won both European and national championships at various age levels. In 1979 he was a member of the Swedish team that finished runners-up to the United States in the Sunshine Cup. He also made the semi-finals of the boys' singles that year at the Orange Bowl and 1979 Wimbledon Championships. Specialising in doubles, Svensson played professionally in the 1980s and won a total of five Challenger titles. During his career he featured in the men's doubles events at the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon Championships. He made Grand Prix doubles semi-finals in Linz in 1979, Båstad in 1980, Sofia in 1980, Nice in 1981 and Tel Aviv in 1986. The Grand Prix tennis circuit was a professional tennis tour for male players that existed from 1970 to 1989. The Grand Prix and World Championship Tennis (WCT) were the two predecessors to the current tour for male players, the ATP Tour, with the Grand Prix being more prominent. Background Before the Open Era, popular professional tennis players, such as Suzanne Lenglen and Vincent Richards, were contracted to professional promoters. Amateur players were under the jurisdiction of their national (and international) federations. Later professional promoters, such as Bill Tilden and Jack Kramer, often convinced leading amateurs like Pancho Gonzales and Rod Laver to join their tours with promises of good prize money. Rodney Crowley
Thomas Rodney Crowley Jr. (September 22, 1958 – May 22, 1991) was an American professional tennis player. Crowley was raised in New Jersey, the son of businessman Thomas Rodney Crowley Sr. His mother, Huguette, was a French national and met Thomas Sr when he was stationed in Algeria during the war. From 1976 to 1980, Crowley was a collegiate tennis player for the University of Virginia and served a period as team captain. Unusually, he would play his ground stokes right-handed but served with his left hand. Ernie Ewert, Jr. (born 5 June 1954) is a former professional tennis player from Australia. Biography Born in Melbourne in 1954, Ewert Jr was the son of a butcher, Ernie Ewert Sr, who went on to become a successful horse trainer. Beginning on the professional circuit at the end of 1971, Ewert was coached by seven-time grand slam champion Mervyn Rose. Jan Gunnarsson (born 30 May 1962) is a former tennis player from Sweden, who won one singles in Vienna in 1985 (beating Libor Pimek in the final) and nine doubles titles on the world tour during his professional career. In 1989 he reached the semi-finals of Australian Open where he lost in straight sets to Miloslav Mečíř. Damir Keretić (born 26 March 1960) is a ex-professional tennis player who represented West Germany in Davis Cup in the 1980s. Biography The only title he won during his career was the Challenger tournament in Naples, Italy in 1981. By getting to the round of 16 at the Australian Open in December 1982 the right-hander reached a high singles ATP-ranking on 7 February 1983, when he became number 58 in the world. Tel Aviv Open
The Tel Aviv Open is an ATP World Tour affiliated tennis tournament. It was played from 1978 through 1981 and 1983 through 1996 and was to be resumed in 2014, marking the end of the tournament in St. Petersburg, however, the 2014 edition was cancelled due to security concerns arising from the ongoing war with the neighboring Gaza Strip, the event was scrapped permanently in 2015. On June 21, 2022, it was announced that the tournament would take place in 2022, albeit in a different venue than previous editions. The tournament is held at the Israel Tennis Center in the Tel Aviv District city of Ramat HaSharon, Israel and is played on outdoor hard courts. The tournament was played as an ATP Challenger Series event in 1978, 1998 and 1999. Open De Nice Côte D'Azur
The ATP Nice Open (or ''Open de Nice Côte d'Azur'' in French) was an ATP World Tour 250 series and, formerly, Grand Prix tennis circuit affiliated men's tennis tournament. It was held in Nice, France at the Nice Lawn Tennis Club and played on outdoor clay courts. The last singles champion is Dominic Thiem from Austria.
