Steel Panther
Steel Panther is an American comedic glam metal band from Los Angeles, California. They are known for their profane and humorous lyrics as well as their exaggerated onstage pastiche of the stereotypical glam metal lifestyle. History Metal Shop / Metal Skool (2000–2007) The quartet began to gain popularity on the Sunset Strip during the early 2000s under the name Metal Shop (soon changed into Metal Skool, then into Steel Panther). Their lineup consisted of vocalist Ralph Saenz ("Michael Starr"), drummer Darren Leader ("Stix Zadinia"), bassist Travis Haley ("Lexxi Foxx"), and guitarist Russ Parrish ("Satchel"). The band did weekly shows on Monday nights at the Viper Room, and subsequently the Key Club, playing covers of hair metal hits while sharing their passion for the bands that made the songs famous. Background During the recording of the album, vocalist Michael Starr was diagnosed with nodules of the vocal chords, and had to undergo surgery to remove them which put the album on hold for several months. The album is named after the "philosophy" of the "Zebraman" from the 1986 documentary film ''Heavy Metal Parking Lot''. Critical reception ''Heavy Metal Rules'' received generally mixed to negative reviews from critics, being criticized for its lyrics and overall lack of refreshment, being called unfunny and repetitive. The album was officially announced September 2013. The first single from the album is "Party Like Tomorrow is the End of the World". The second single, "The Burden of Being Wonderful", was released January 21, 2014. The third single, "Gloryhole", was released in April 2014 on Steel Panther's VEVO channel. On March 26, 2014 the album was leaked online and available for downloading on various websites, most likely after being streamed by the German tabloid ''Bild''. The online stream was approved by Steel Panther. The album's artwork is a parody of the mural painting ''The Last Supper'' by Leonardo da Vinci. ''Balls Out'' is the second studio album by the American glam metal band Steel Panther. It was released on October 28, 2011, on Universal Republic Records. Production and release In an interview in May 2011, guitarist Satchel said that the band had begun recording new material in August 2010, and by May 2011 had completed all fifteen songs planned for the album. The album was officially announced on July 19, 2011 and the title was announced on August 22. The album is produced by Jay Ruston, who previously worked with the band on their album ''Feel the Steel''. On September 6, it was announced that the album's release date had been pushed back from October 18 to 31, though it was released in Europe on iTunes on October 28. The first singles of the album are "If You Really, Really Love Me" in the United Kingdom and "17 Girls In A Row" in the United States.
