''Steel'' ( it, Acciaio) is a 2012 Italian drama film directed by Stefano Mordini. It is based on the 2010 novel ''Steel'' (''Acciaio'') by Silvia Avallone. The film is set in the industrial town of Piombino, Tuscany and focuses on a working class family involved in the Piombino steel plants' crisis. It premiered at the 69th Venice International Film Festival on 3 September 2012. Francesco Turbanti (born 20 January 1988) is an Italian actor and screenwriter. Career Born in Grosseto, after his studies he moved to Rome, graduating at the theatre school "Teatro Azione" in 2008. He began his acting career in the Roman stages and debuted in 2011 with his first feature film, ''The First on the List'', in the main role of Renzo Lulli. For the role he won the LARA special prize for best newcomer at the Rome Film Festival, Rome International Film Festival. Massimo Popolizio (born 4 July 1961) is an Italian actor and voice actor. Biography Massimo Popolizio studied at the Silvio D'Amico National Academy of Dramatic Arts in Rome in 1984, Popolizio started his career as a stage actor and, after graduation, started a fruitful artistic collaboration with theater director Luca Ronconi. Silvia Avallone (born 11 April 1984) is an Italian novelist and poet. Early life Born in 1984 in Biella, she spent her adolescence in Piombino. She was an only child of divorced parents; her father owned a small business and her mother was a schoolteacher. She studied philosophy and literature in Bologna, and later married a bookseller. Literary career Her first collection of poetry, ''Il libro dei vent'anni'', appeared in 2007. She also wrote short stories, which were published in literary magazines. Her first novel, ''Acciaio'', was published in 2010 by RCS MediaGroup. Set in a steel mill in Piombino, it draws heavily on her childhood experiences.
