Its seat is the town of Stawiszyn, which lies approximately north of Kalisz and south-east of the regional capital Poznań. The gmina covers an area of , and as of 2006 its total population is 7,244 (out of which the population of Stawiszyn amounts to 1,554, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 5,690).
