Stavro Jabra, (February 18, 1947 – March 12, 2017), was a Lebanese cartoonist and illustrator, better known as Stavro. His work reflected the current events in Lebanon, the Middle East and the world in general. For forty years, his cartoons about topical news in Lebanon and the Middle East were printed in Lebanese newspapers. Stavro Skëndi
Stavro Skëndi (born 1905 in Korçë; d. August 17, 1989 in Long Island) was an Albanian American linguist and historian. Career Skendi studied at Robert College in Istanbul, graduating in 1928. He continued his studies at the University of Geneva and returned to Albania, where he taught in Commerce schools. In 1946, he emigrated to the U.S. He enrolled at Columbia University as a Ph.D. candidate, graduating in 1951. He joined the faculty as a lecturer in a program on East-Central Europe, specializing in Balkan language studies. He succeeded Nelo Drizari as lecturer and taught courses in Albanian and South Slavic at Columbia from 1954 until his retirement in 1972. Throughout this period, he cultivated his interest in Albanian studies, writing and publishing frequently. Astrid Stavro (born Astrid Christina Antonia Stavro di Santarosa y Marone-Cinzano on 2 April 1972) is an Italian graphic designer based in London. Born in Trieste, she grew up in the city of Madrid, Spain, where she spent a lot of time in a pressing plant where her father worked. Stavro also spent a large portion of her childhood reading literature classics, everything from Borges to Paul Auster to Aldous Huxley to Raymond Carver to John Berger, "all these authors have been my first and best teachers and this is why I now love to write about design." Steve Atanas Stavro, (September 27, 1926 – April 23, 2006; born Manoli Stavroff Sholdas) was a Macedonian-Canadian businessman, grocery store magnate, Thoroughbred racehorse owner/breeder, sports team owner, and a noted philanthropist. Under the leadership of Steve Stavro, what began as a single produce store in the east end of Toronto in 1954 grew into Knob Hill Farms, one of Canada's largest grocery chains all with only 10 locations in and around Toronto. Knob Hill Farm's Cambridge location, founded in 1991, had the honor of being the largest grocery store in the world at the time of its opening. Stavro was also an avid sports fan and heavily involved with the Canadian sports scene, beginning in 1961 with the founding of the Eastern Canada Professional Soccer League together with George Gross.
