Statesville Owls
The Statesville Owls were a minor league baseball team located in Statesville, North Carolina. Statesville minor league teams played a member of the North Carolina Association (1900), Tar Heel League (1939–1940), North Carolina State League, (1942, 1945–1952), Tar Heel League (1953), Western Carolina League (1960–1962) and Western Carolinas League (1963–1964, 1966–1967, 1969), winning three league championships. Statesville teams played as minor league affiliates of the Chicago Cubs (1945–1946), New York Giants (1952), Los Angeles Angels (1961), Boston Red Sox/Houston Colt .45s (1964), Detroit Tigers (1966–1967) and Cleveland Indians (1969). Independent Baseball League
An independent baseball league is a professional baseball organization in the United States or Canada that is not overseen by Major League Baseball and is outside the Minor League Baseball clubs affiliated to it. The Northern League and Frontier League both started play in 1993, and the Northern League's success paved the way for other independent leagues like the Texas-Louisiana League and Northeast League. Monroe, North Carolina
Monroe is a city in and the county seat of Union County, North Carolina, United States. The population increased from 32,797 in 2010 to 34,551 in 2020. It is within the rapidly growing Charlotte metropolitan area. Monroe has a council-manager form of government. History Monroe was founded as a planned settlement. In 1843, the first Board of County Commissioners, appointed by the General Assembly, selected an area in the center of the county as the county seat, and Monroe was incorporated that year. It was named for James Monroe, the country's fifth president. It became a trading center for the agricultural areas of the Piedmont region, which cultivated tobacco. High Point-Thomasville Hi-Toms
Thomasville, North Carolina was home to several minor league baseball teams from 1937–1969. The Thomasville Chair Makers joined the North Carolina State League in 1937 and became the Thomasville Tommies in 1939. They were an affiliate of the Cleveland Indians from 1940–1942. No team was fielded during World War II. The Thomasville Dodgers (an affiliate of the Brooklyn Dodgers) took the field in 1945.
