State Route 231 (Tennessee)
State Route 231 (SR 231) is a north-south state highway in the hills of western Middle Tennessee. It serves to connect the towns of McEwen and Erin. Route description SR 231 begins in Humphreys County in downtown McEwen at an intersection with US 70/ SR 1. It heads north as Main Street to pass through neighborhoods before leaving McEwen and passing northwest through farmland for several miles as Erin Road. The highway then crosses over a wooded ridge just before crossing over White Oak Creek and entering Houston County. SR 231 then winds its way northwest as McEwen Road to cross another ridge before traveling up a narrow valley, where comes to an end at an intersection with SR 13 just south of Erin. The entire route of SR 231 is a two-lane Highway and lies entirely atop the Highland Rim. Humphreys County, Tennessee
Humphreys County is a county located in the western part of Middle Tennessee, in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 18,990. Its county seat is Waverly. History Humphreys County was established in 1809 from parts of Stewart County, and named for Parry Wayne Humphreys, a young Justice of the State Supreme Court, who was later elected as US Congressman from this area. The county seat was initially located at Reynoldsburg, near the mouth of Dry Creek. When the western half of the county was taken to form Benton County to the west in 1835, the seat of Humphreys was newly designated as Waverly, a town that was more centrally located in the redefined jurisdiction. The Highland Rim is a geographic term for the area in Tennessee surrounding the Central Basin. Nashville is largely surrounded by higher terrain in all directions. Geologically, the Central Basin is a dome. The Highland Rim is a cuesta surrounding the basin, and the border where the difference in elevation is sharply pronounced is an escarpment. Nashville is located in the northwestern corner of the basin.
