State Route 16 (Virginia)
State Route 16 is a primary state highway in the southwest part of the U.S. state of Virginia. It runs from the North Carolina border at North Carolina Highway 16 north to the West Virginia border at West Virginia Route 16, passing through the towns of Troutdale, Marion, and Tazewell. Highway 16 is part of a three-state route 16 that connects the Charlotte region with northwestern West Virginia. Route description Grayson County SR 16 begins at the North Carolina state line near the community of Grassy Creek, where North Carolina Highway 16 ends. Troutdale is a town in Grayson County, Virginia, United States. The population was 140 at the 2020 census. Geography Troutdale is located at (36.700963, -81.444823). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.1 square miles (8.1 km2), all land. Climate The climate in this area has mild differences between highs and lows, and there is adequate rainfall year-round. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Troutdale has a marine west coast climate, abbreviated "Cfb" on climate maps. The Iron Mountains are a mountain range, subrange of the Blue Ridge Mountains. These mountains are located around the common meeting point of Tennessee, Virginia, and North Carolina. A portion of the Appalachian Trail runs the crest of the Iron Mountains above Watauga Lake and the Watauga River near Elizabethton, Tennessee, and then runs northeastly by Shady Valley, Tennessee, Shady Valley, Tennessee, finally ascending Holston Mountain and into Virginia. The Tennessee Valley Divide is the boundary of the drainage basin of the Tennessee River and its tributaries. The Tennessee River drainage basin begins with its tributaries in southwestern Virginia and flows generally west to the confluence of the Tennessee with the Ohio River at Paducah, Kentucky. A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Wilson Creek (North Carolina)
The Wilson Creek area is located in the Grandfather District of the Pisgah National Forest, in the northwestern section of Caldwell County, North Carolina. Wilson Creek has a water system that originates near Calloway Peak and stretches for 23 miles before joining with John's River. It was added to the Wild and Scenic River System on August 18, 2000. History The Wilson Creek Wilderness area was once used by the Cherokee Native Americans as a summer hunting ground. The area was settled in 1750, and at this time logging began in the dense forest.
